I'm wondering if someone is trying to scam me. I went to a job site and there was a post saying they needed extras for a movie being filmed

I called the number and spoke with someone who said there would be a fee of $1.98 for setting up a profile. They want a head shot and two body shots. I gave them my visa # and then they told me that they would be taking $35.00 per month out of my account to make my profile available to casting directors. I don't mind paying the fee if I'll be getting work but it seems like if it was real they would take a percentage if I get work not charging me either way. There is a two week trial period. My plan is to try it and see if I get work. If I don't get any work, I'll cancel but two weeks doesn't seem like much time. If this is a scam does anyone know how a person could get work as an extra?

Good question ! I think almost anyone can be an extra , they don't have lines and are usually part of a crowd . I remember when they made a movie in Sacramento that they had signs for extras ! For $ 1.98 , I think I would check it out . If it's real , 99% of stars get noticed as extras . Give it a shot and the Best of Luck to you !

Thanks

Hey , for that price , they can't clean you out . I can see them taking the $35.00 dollars as any employment agency would do the same .

I'll remember you when I'm rich and famous. Too late too be in a John Wayne movie but I'd love to be in a Clint Eastwood movie. No delusions of grandeur here.
Report as
Nah , none at all ! LoL !

I checked them out. It is a scam. They take your money but they don't get you any work. I cancelled my membership. Oh well. I'm still hoping to run into Clint Eastwood and have him say I'd be perfect for one of his movies. Not holding my breath 'til it happens though. My sister was dating a guy who worked for Clint Eastwood but unfortunately the guy died. Mr. Eastwood took care of the guy. Got him the best medical care available. I'm pretty sure Clint Eastwood is a real stand up kind of guy.

I'm sure he is ! I loved his speech at the Republican Parties nomination ! He doesn't like politics to much . Glad you got that squared away and didn't get taken ! Sounded good , but the scammers are out in force for the holidays !
Report as
At least they gave me an idea and I'll look for other opportunities.
I've always liked Clint Eastwood but after learning how well he treats his employees and his speech at the Republican National Convention I like him and respect him even more.

All I can say is had a friend cast as an extra in the film "Avatar" and he did not pay a dime. It was show up to be fitted, that's it. but I'd pay too if work was a guarantee. Who wouldn't? They advertised in the local paper from what I understand. I know another guy who got work in a movie through his own website. He said he was a stuntman. The movie was "rugrats" or some movie about little animated critters., Brendan Fraser starred.

For only a $ 1.98 , it wouldn't cost much to find out ?
Report as
true
Report as
I'm not worried about the $1.98. I'm concerned that they now have my Visa # and if they keep taking $ out of my account and I get nothing in return. I'll try the 2 week trial period though then change my Visa # if I have to. I can understand them wanting something to get my name out there. I don't expect something for nothing but I don't want to pay something and get nothing either.

exactly i would get that stopped

JD : That's easy enough to do ! I have my online credit card company online so I can see what gets put on it ! I've disputed a couple charges and they stood behind me and credited my account . So , if they try to scam you, you will know right off !
Report as
Good idea. I just have the one but they call me if something looks amiss.
Supposedly they pay up to $300.00 a day and I could use it. It sounded real but don't they all.
Report as
It's a 50-50 thing ! I hope it's real !
Report as
I checked them out with the BBB. It is a scam. I canceled my membership.

JDBoDean : Glad you found out ! Seemed like it would have kind of cool , but it figures it's a scam ! There is just way to much scamming going on ! It makes me sick !

I've worked as an extra before and it didn't cost anything , they paid us in cash and all you could eat for lunch. Based on my Experience ... Which I worked on a few projects it seems like a scam :-/

It does sound a little suspicious. How did you get work as an extra?
Report as
A friend of mine took me to one and once you get on one everybody there is talking about where the next one will be. So it was easy to find more work if you needed it
Report as
So you've got to get to that first one to have access to the others.
Report as
You were right. It is a scam. I canceled. I still may try to find work as an extra. It sounds pretty cool but I won't be paying anyone in advance for work I may not get. Thanks for your answer.

If I dont' talk to you before Tuesday, Merry Christmas! :)

This doesn't sound right, but you know that. I wouldn't trust some unknown entity with my card info, and now they want to take $35. out monthly? Like the others say- you shouldn't have to pay to work.

Yes. If I wasn't suspicious I wouldn't have asked. The dilemma is you have to get your name out there somehow in order to get started. I won't be letting them take money from me if I'm not getting anything for it. It reminds me of those deals where they tell every young girl she can be a model as long as she pays the fee. I'll be calling the Better Business Bureau to see what they have to say.
Report as
Good. And once you're famous, can I say, " I knew him before..."?
Report as
If I'm ever famous you can say that. I checked this deal out with the BBB and it is a scam. I canceled my membership. I'll have to find another way to get rich and famous. Actually I really don't care about famous, rich would be just fine.

Sounds like a scam. Check the company with the BBB and maybe even the police. You can google "auditions" or "casting calls" plus the name of a major city near you or your state.

Thanks I will be doing that. I don't know why I didn't think of Google. I guess because I was looking on job sites, that popped up and I thought "oh hey cool!" I won't let myself be scammed though. It's amazing the number of scams on these job sites trying to take money from people who can't afford it. You wouldn't believe all the emails and calls I've gotten from people trying to sign me up for school. I just ask them. "Is this a job offer?"" I need a job. Not a way to spend more money I don't have."
Report as
good for you! and good luck for you!
Report as
Thanks Mona. I did Google them and they have a lot of complaints. The BBB even has a little video warning against them. I cancelled my membership.
Report as
so glad....but keep a watchful eye over your credit charges for the next little while.
Report as
I will do that. I'll change the number if I have to. I'm calling tomorrow to tell them those charges are not authorized.
