It's not as hard as you think. Diet and exercise will do the trick. I lost 50 lbs this year in about six months by i. cutting the size of my meals; ii. avoiding snacks completely; iii. walking.
Because of my age walking was all I could do (you can probably manage something much more strenuous) but even with walking it takes distance and energy. A gentle stroll is easier but it takes that much longer to burn off the fat.
And, oh yeah, don't be a salad dodger. Salads don't have to be rabbit food -- there are lots of delicious varieties. Find a few that you enjoy and alternate them.
It helps if you have a family member to diet with you, and it helps if you're the person who prepares the meals. Good luck, you can do it.
