Revelation actually speaks of two groups: verse 4 speaks of 144,000 and verse 9 speaks of a great crowd that no one was able to number, who come out of the great tribulation. Though Revelation mentions 12 tribes of Israel, these do not match the original 12 tribes. Therefore, this is a spiritual Israel, and further research indicates that the 144,000 will reside in heaven and serve as kings and priests with Jesus Christ, and the great crowd will live forever on the earth.
to me it sounds like those are the grand total of people throughout history who have gone straight to heaven when they died. see, the rest of the people who died went to purgatory, to be cleansed before entering heaven, or they went to Hell, for eternal suffering and punishment. and God himself says few make into the kingdom of God, so maybe the 144,000 are those who went above and beyond the average person, and were rewarded that much more for it.
The 144,00 are symbolic not the literal number that represents God's people who are to be in heaven, but that was heard by John (revelation 7:4)"Then I heard" is said their, but in (revelation 7:9) John saw it was in "great multitude".. it's speaks that people who are to be in heaven are great in number not just 144,000.
Hi Bettyeckles - Always comes down to the same thing, repenting our sins. And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.Behold, I will throw her onto a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her I will throw into great tribulation, unless they repent of her works, 144,000 –Revelation 7.1-8; 14.1-5 – The number of Jews—12,000 from each of the twelve tribes of Israel—who believe in Christ and provide a witness to the faithfulness of God. This sealing of the Holy Spirit belongs to every believer when they are saved: having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
They are Messianic Jews 12,000 from each of the12 tribes of Israel who God has anointed to take the Gospel to the Lost sheep Of Israel. Because it's during this time of the Great Tribulation that most Jews will finally realize that Jesus was who He claimed to be. And they will Repent and get Saved.
Rev 7:4 you mean? Certainly not Jehovahs Witnesses since they didnt exist until the 1900's and the rest of the passage very specifically mentions the twelve tribes of Israel BY NAME. The arrigance of the JWs is pretty stunning when you realize they manage to interpret 'children of the tribes of Israel' followed by specific mention of each tribe as meaning Jehovahs Witnesses and no one but JWs who wont exist until centuries in the future. Then down in verse 9 everyone else is there as well.
The 144,000 Jews are a sort of "first fruits" (Revelation 14:4) of a redeemed Israel which has been previously prophesied (Zechariah 12:10; Romans 11:25-27), and their mission is to evangelize the post-rapture world and proclaim the gospel during the tribulation period. As a result of their ministry, millions-"a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language" (Revelation 7:9)?will come to faith in Christ.http://www.gotquestions.org/144000.html
That would be the number of those who were sealed-all from the tribes of Isreal. Then after that the Gentiles in 9-10-baptized souls. Remember the bible says first for the Jews and then for the Gentiles.
