How do you stop a cat from scent marking indoors? 10yrs old and do not have UI.
we have two resident 10yr old male cats. we brought foster kittens in for a few weeks, which is about when one of our cats began marking. it has been one to two months since they have left the house, and our cat is still marking. he is neutered, does not have an urinary tract infection, nor fleas.
things tried so far:
we have tried cleaning everything since the kittens left, cleaning marked spots, getting rid of toys and anything that had kitten scent, feliway diffusers, liquid catnip on toys and scratching post, etc. at one point last week, we put stress relief collars on them, gave them an additional litterbox in one spot he marked repeatedly, and moved the food bowls to a different marked spot. this actually worked for 3-4 days, but then my father decided to move the food bowls back to their old spot, and my cat immediately went back to marking all over the place. returning the bowls to the "new" spot didnt work this time.
my mother is at the end of her wits from coughing in reaction to the pee and cleaning chemicals for the past month. if we dont find a solution soon, we may have to give them to the shelter. please help!
