Should the student or teacher be punished?

In gym class, we were walking the track one day & a student in my class got called fat by the gym teacher. To his face! So, the student walked off, and started cursing under his breath, saying rude things about the teacher. Well, someone over heard him, and he was told on. Keep in mind that the student was halfway around the track, far away from the teacher. The boy went to the office, and came back with 3 days out of school suspension. Nothing happened to the teacher for calling him fat. Is this fair in your opinion?

I would have. I don't care who he is, he has no right to say that, and I would have kicked his a$$ without hesitation.

I don't think this is fair. Teachers should not call their students fat or anything insulting. They're supposed to encourage and help their students. The teacher should at least have said "just kidding" or something.

The teacher should have been punished, if that were a kid talking to the student, he's be suspended for bullying.

well if the teacher was some what drill instructor then that natural, but health is an issue and say if a fat kid complains he can do it then they'll go light on him and let him walk, making him no loose fat, and he'll keep eating so the ratio of him eating would be more then him loosing weight giving him a risk of heart attack, obesity, stroke, and immobility. The teacher should of been lighter but it's a kids future

I think you should tell your principal about it,I love your explanation, just write it in a note, and I think the teacher should get punished.

I think the teacher needs to be punished! If it was another kid saying that, they could have gotten in trouble for bullying. If the teacher thought his weight was a health issue, then he should have brought it up with someone, not called the kid fat. I don't see why the kid is getting in trouble anyway

This teacher's behavior is appalling, if I was the student's parent, I'd be in the principal's office so fast s/he wouldn't know what hit him. Unkindness shown by a teacher to a student signals to other students that it's okay to abuse or bully this overweight student. That teacher needs to have serious consequences for his or her behavior. The student shouldn't use curse words, but that is nothing compared to what the teacher, supposedly an adult who cares about kids, did.

The teacher is entirely wrong here. If that happened to my son, I would call the principal, not the vice-principal and set up a meeting after having the student write out exactly what happened (without exaggeration), including the other students who were present and heard the exchange. A 3-day out-of-school suspension is not appropriate in this case. Why did the parents not contact the school? If the parents are not involved enough, the student can write to the superintendent and ask that this situation be reviewed. Look up how to contact the school board online. The student would not have responded in such a disrespectful way without the 'fat' comment. This happened as a result of the teacher's actions.

The student should have been doing whatever it is they were told, or not done whatever it is that provoked the teacher
But I do not think the teacher handled the situation properly at first when he/she insulted a student
In my opinion the kid is a little d!ckhead and started it

I didn't see where it said he wasn't doing what he was told. Can you tell me where that is? I don't mean to sound rude, just curious

It isn't said here, but I guarantee you this isn't 100% of the story

if this were me i would've walked off as well if i got called fat i would've just said I'm not fat I'm fluffy or any comeback but the teacher had no right to call the student fat but the student if he was cussing under his breath and got told on for he should've just gotten a write up not 3 day suspension but i would've just given the teacher a warning and lower his pay if he continues doing this then yes he has to be fired.
