That'd be awful! I had that experience when I was either six or seven. That was embarrassing.
Report as
it'd be terrible, not sure i would ever go out again at that point.
Report as
I almost experienced it yesterday when I took my ACT. There was no way to go to the bathroom (which was down the hall) and I was panicking. I almost couldn't focus, but thankfully they called time just in time. Lol.

Phobias aren't just fears. Most people think the fear of heights, spiders, burning, etc. are actual phobias. But in reality those are just fears that are naturally built into most of us. If you think you have a phobia because you're afraid of big men or something like that, you only have a touch of the real concept of phobias. They're not real phobias unless you're irrationally paranoid about them 24/7 and are struck with mere panic and horror when you encounter a situation that only slightly pertains to them. Real phobias are a mental illness. People with real phobias are troubled everyday and go through enormous effort to just try and do everyday things. People with real phobias hyperventilate and nearly pass out on an average occasion. People with real phobias laugh when someone says "I have arachnophobia because I'm afraid of spiders". I used to have agoraphobia and it hurts my feelings in a way when people WANT to be able to say they have a phobia, because I know they have no idea what it's really like.

I understand what you're saying. I'm not like that though. I have a legitimate fear of vomit. Emitephobia. It sucks because if someone I love gets sick, I can't do anything to help because I'll either run as far away as possible or have a panic attack. Which also poses a problem when I am sick myself. I agree with you, anything that causes people to panic or paranoid is a phobia. I can't say I'm claustrophobic because I get uncomfortable in small spaces. My boyfriend, though, is claustrophobic. He nearly squeezed my shoulders off when we had to pass through a large crowd. But yeah, faking a phobia isn't cool; but for some people who are like, "OMG I'm, like, so scared of spiders!" it may be legitimate. You never know until you stick a spider under their nose. JK
Report as
Are you and your boyfriend still phobic?
Report as
Sorry, that sounds like a challenge. I mean it sincerely.
Report as
Yes, we are. I have trouble even being around him when he says he's nauseous and the other night we were walking through our church and we were surrounded by people and he gripped onto my shoulders so tightly they started hurting and when we got out his face was pale.
Report as
Do you want these phobias to go away?
Report as
In order for them to go away, I have to either A. go to counseling, which I can't afford. Or B. face them, and knowing a story from my friend who had an experience like that, IDK if I'd be able to handle it.
Report as
Luna - I used to have phobias. I got over them by facing them. It's called exposure therapy. Definied as an event in which a person safely encounters their fears, phobias or anxieties in order to overcome them. 90% of the time, it works. There are also some techniques you can do during the event to reduce your anxiety at the moment.

Thank you both for your input. I will take it into consideration. And I have to say that I'm glad that there are supportive, wise, and God-fearing people on this website. It makes things so much easier and more clean to deal with. Thanks again, y'all. :)
