How do i tell someone to back off a little at my livery yard?
please read.

my mum's best friend has a daughter who's 12, and she comes down to our livery yard pretty much every day (she lives next door). she was fine helping out to begin with but she is very eager to own her own horse, and recently she has started being very bossy and wanting to do every chore around the yard (i presume to prove to her mum that she can care for her own horse) i thought this wouldnt last for very long but now its getting to the point where i can't even spend some quality time with my own horse, without her coming in to do the girth, adjusting the stirrups or joining in grooming him. and its beginning to get me down. how can i ask her to back-off a bit without being giving the impression that im being horrible or unresionanable. (sorry for the paragraph:P)

Have designated days she can help - no more than two a week. A calendar identifying those dates will give her something to focus on. Give her a story that YOU need to the chores to make sure the horse knows who's boss.

You are going to have to set some boundaries. She is ambitious and she is enthusiastic ... you can't fault her for that .. she just needs a little gentle guidance .. Sometimes too much of a good thing is not so good.

Sit down together and create a chore chart with her. She can mark things off as she goes. Be sure to point out the things you appreciate her help with, then let her know you like alone time with your horse. Just be honest. I know sometimes it's hard to be assertive, but you can do it with kindness.
