How do you figure out 20 percent of something for instance take 20 percent off 10 dollars

You make an equation saying .20x10 and then when you get your answer since the decimal is 2 places to the left. When you get your answer you count 2 places on the answer to the left and put a decimal 2 places to the left of the beggining of the answer you got. :)

Do 10 x .20
Then subtract your answer from 10:
10 x .20=2
10 - 2=8
