actually there are two types of Bipolar Disorder, type 1, formerly known as Manic Depressive Disorder, and type 2. Bipolar type 1 is the disorder in which the person can experience the Mania and the Drepression in cycles. type 2, the person experience Hypomania or the depression. both are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and can generally be treated with medicatio and therapy

Don't know much but those with 'BIPOLAR DISORDER" can have high highs of over confidence and very dark lows of gloom. (bad name for it, stigmatises) They take medication which many resent and don't take, but it shows up pretty obviously if medication is not taken. Its a widespread affliction which many still live quite normal lives with, providing the depression is not too deep or often. Sometimes the overconfidence can lead to reckless and self damaging lifestyle activities, just like ordinary people can do.
Sadly some develop a diminished level of responsibility, others can become too erratic to hold friends, but yet others make wonderful and responsible lives with a heart of gold. I am not a psychologist or doctor.
Basically, it's like having really frequent mood changes. One minute you can be dying of happiness but then the next, you could be manically depressed.. That's not full definition, but it's basically what it means..
