Roman Catholic, the oldest and most consistent christian religion in the world.

Helpful (1) Fun (1) Thanks for voting Comments (15)
Report as
You don't actually believe that do you? (the part of being the oldest most consistent religion) ??? Wrong. Look it up. The truth may surprise you.
Report as
Oh yeah that religion , the one that massacred people in the Crusades, right religion is so good
Report as
i have looked it up, in several different history books, Roman Catholicism was the first christian religion, it surfaced in approximatly 33 A.D with the death of christ, and the rise of St. Peter as the first pope, and the moral teachings of the church have not changed in the almost two thousand years since that, whereas all other christian religions are rather flip-floppy on the moral law. i can show you sources for this, can you show me sources for yours?
Report as
Look in the Bible. Find an OLD copy. Look up "The Lords Prayer" Read it. CAREFULLY. See what words have been added in, and changed by Rome. Don't fall for the misguided 'fact books you have been given. Go out and find independent proof. Not what you have been force fed by CCD and church. It was NOT Roman Catholocism. That came when the church was headquartered in Rome. Look up when the Church was in Rome. NOT when it was from Gallilee. Huge difference.
Report as
If you look up Catholic Church in Wikipedia you will get an accurate historical timeline. The Term Catholic means "to be in line with the teachings from Rome." Do you recall where Jesus was from? Was it even near Rome? Did Jesus ever visit Rome? Hmmmmm.. There seems to be a problem with the truth in Catholic Land. has been for years. Especially since they came up with 'Papal Infallibility' as an excuse to make up anything they wanted to. (read about Galileo's excommunication for heresy.)
Report as
you dont know history, i can help that, first of all, the bible i have was directly translated from the original manuscripts, no extra words, no add ins, the changes that are in the other christian religion's bibles, were made by Martin Luther, in the 1520's, when he decided to form his own church, and remove seven books from the Bible that already existed , but that he alone, had decided did not belong in the Bible, because they did not agree with his personal doctrines, that is historical fact, which you can find in almost ANY, history book, and the headquarters for the Catholic Church has been in Rome, since the pentecost right after Christ's death, another historical fact that you can find anywhere, third of all, i have never attended a CCD class, and have always found at least two other independant sources to verify whatever i read in a history book, i doubt that you have done the same, but i think you should look and find the truth, not just your own opinions. again, can you give me a source for this bilge you're spouting?
Report as
Also, Papal infallibility only applies on matters of faith and morals (oops guess you failed to read that far) and wikipedia is not an acceptable source, even in the public schools, because like this site, its a public forum, anyone can put whatever they want on it, its made by idiots, for idiots. if you want to believe wikipedia over historians thats your buisness, but dont open up your mouth and make yourself look foolish.
Report as
Also, the land of of judea, where Jesus was born, was a protectorate of Rome, under Rome's control (oh wait, i guess you forgot to read that far again)
Report as
Ruben, try reading accurate history please, the church did not condone the slaughter that some soldiers commited, that was people who claimed to be working for the church, not an order from the pope, oh, and did you ever notice that the people who commited those crimes were excimmunicated by the pope, and then executed by the resident monarch for their crimes?
Report as
I'm a christain too

The Catholic Church was headquartered in Rome around 100AD. Christ was long dead. This was simply a power grab by power hungry money grubbing thieves. The Our Father contains the words: ' For the kingdom, the power and the Glory are yours, almighty Father, Forever and Ever, Amen". Try to say those words in front of your priest next mass. See what he says!. This is specifically excised from the Catholic church ritual for a reason.

What, no comment on why/ how Galileo was convicted of Heresy? All knowing, My Eye.

No, Rome was in ROME. Judea was in......... NOT ROME. It was under Romes direction, but NOT the Catholic Church when Christ was there. Stop making this stuff up..... Oh, I see. You make stuff up to support YOUR POV, and simply flail against any other opinion. YUP, sounds pretty 'consistant' to me too!

I don't beleive 'Historians' who have a specific bent to only write what is 'approved' doctrine that 'fits' the Vatican mold of thought. BTW, when you give the 'sign of peace' how many of those same people won't even give you the time of day outside the sanctuary??? Yeah, the Catholic Church is SO righteous.
Report as
yeah, you are so beyond idiotic, first, gallileo was not even mentioned in our conversation until now, and yes, he was convicted of heresy, and for good reason, he was teaching a theory as fact in a catholic school, that does not change that the church continued to fund his research so he could prove his theories. second, i have deliberatly gone to historical input that is outside the church, in order to find unbiased doctrines, and, have you ever been to a catholic mass, if so, you have not listened very well, the words, "For the kingdom, the power and the Glory are yours, almighty Father, Forever and Ever, Amen" do appear in the Catholic mass, about five minutes after the Our Father is said, i know, i attend mass every sunday, thats one of the phrases martin luther added into the bible in the 1520s, it does not appear in any bible before the 1520s. Luther added it, its a fact, a fact recognized by any historian who knows anything, regardless of religion. finally, a protectorate of Rome was counted as a roman territory that makes it PART OF ROME, thats why Jesus was taken to Bethlehem, in order to be counted in the (OMG) ROMAN CENSUS. also, yes, there are bad people within the church, just as there are within any religion, that does not make the religion bad. it has dawned upon me that you have no education in history, have been fed lies your entire life, and obviously you have not done a very good job educating yourself, i am stating historical facts, you are removing all doubt of your idiocy.
Report as
Except if you cared about historical facts, you'd know that there was never a Roman census that required people to return to town of origin, because (OMG) that's not actually a CENSUS. Roman censuses counted only the head of household, in the city of residence.
Report as
wrong sir, that one was for the specific purpose of counting all of the population of the area, in order to decide how many individual presiders they would need for it in the coming years, and this one, did require for the family to return to the town of origin, this census was a very specific circumstance. Jesus and his entire family appeared in that roman census in 1 A.D. i believe that a mueseum actually has the original manuscript it was inscribed on.
Report as
I'm a woman.

And there was never a census ANYWHERE that required anyone to return to town of origin. Ever- not in any record anywhere. Where is your evidence for this claim, since by definition such a "census" isn't a census at all and would tell the government nothing?

There is no manuscript from the time citing Jesus or his family. There is no contemporary historical evidence Jesus even existed. Also, reputable theological scholars actually place the supposed "birth" closer to 6BCE.

Sadly Rome and other religions have caused a lot of mistrust toward religion however churches were instituted by God through Commandments to his apostles you can read about that in the Bible. Therefore just like anything else there are good and there are bad the church is still the body of Christ it was never meant to do alone.

I never heard of that can u please explain that to me?
Report as
Wicca is a religion based off of ancient western religious/belief system. It is a modern religion but has roots that go back to the time of the Celtic peoples and even before. It is polytheistic with most practioners honoring the Goddess who is a creation deity embodied by the Earth and the Moon. and the God who is a Nature deity embodied in all of Nature and the creatures who live on the earth, he is also regarded as a Sun deity and the consort of the Goddess. (there is a lot more to it but that is the basics)

I have noticed that several have answered that they are of the "Christian" religion. I am Christian as well. However - Christianity is not a "religion" - but a "philosophy" - a belief in the works of Jesus, whether it be of a simple faith in Him as a profit, the actual son of God or the Saviour. "Religion", having to do with Christianity, - such as Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, Mormon etc., are simply "man made" inventions of worship with their own "man
made" rules. The pure and simple belief in the creator is good enough for me.

Christianity is technically a religion.
Report as
No -it isn't.
Report as
Yes, it is. A religion is just a set of beliefs about gods. Christianity is by definition a religion. It doesn't have to be a specific denomination. You seem to confuse SECTS of Christianity with the religion Christianity as a whole.
Report as
Christianity is a religion but it is more importantly a lifestyle technically the word itself means Christ like; Which every real Christian tries to be those who fail or those who don't really try, I should say are not really Christian's. real Christians may fail don't let the ones who just give lip service turn you away
Report as
The fact that there isn't any evidence for your god and that your scriptures are rife with historical and factual inaccuracies, impossibilities, and questionable ethics is what "turned me away".
Report as
Hello, people. Fact remains that Christianity is not a "religion". There are many religions that fall under Christianity - but Christianoty itself is not a religion, period.
Report as
Sorry, you're wrong. By every definition Christianity is a religion. It is DENOMINATIONS that fall under the greater heading of the Christian religion.
