For science, I have to do this debate about energy sources. What's a comeback to say when someone mentions that oil is nonrenewable

Report as

The true factual comeback is we have known reserves for 100s of years and vast unexplored regions that will hold further gas and oil. In the meantime, other clean and safe technologies will overtake fossil fuels eg solar (collect heat or electricity), fuel cells, tidal, geothermal, wind.and hydrogen.
Cold fusion might be harnessed, we won't need nuclear plants much longer either, maybe several decades.
We are already winding back our dependence on fossil fuels and all we need to do is continue to increase efficiency of power generation and of appliances and industrial processes. There is no "running out" scenario coming,
Only the power lords and big oil drillers want to create anxiety in consumers to bump up prices.

Tell them you in fact are restoring what was once animals and vegetation on the surface of the planet back from underground.
The carbon burnt produces CO2 which returns to the Earth in rain and makes minerals, nutrients for plants.

So its is actually renewing to bring it back to the surface where it started.
We don't need oil reserves to be renewable, we'll stop using them long before they dwindle.

We already moved on from reduced supplies of wood and peat for burning in heaters, and we will move on from coal, gas and oil as need drives us. All the solutions are already there, and better ones even in the near future.

Does this make sense, once workers figure out how to increase efficiency, there will be a long time till oil runs out
Report as
Yes thats what efficiency improvements will mean, but I don't think we'll ever run out, we'll just stop using and leave the rest as cheaper clean methods are developed.

it is a major source of energy

It's more efficient and powerful than other recourses (efficient meaning miles per gallon)

It does renew. Granted it takes many millennia.....many, many millennia ...o.O

neither is green energy. It takes more fossil fuel to produce install green energy products than what you get back.
we have wind farms here. The Aluminum skins are made here. the steel is made in China, The whole thing is shipped to Sweden to be put together. Then shipped to U.S. trees are cut, access roads are cleared cranes are brought in workers drive to the site the turbine is trucked in ALL USING FOSSIL FUELS.
You never get out what the life span of a turbine is.
worse yet CINERGY screwed the land owners out of payment. Instead of renting for the 1/10 acre as agreed , they took it back to court. the land owner only gets paid for the time the turbine is on grid. their not on most of the time.
it's a scam.
