Why do people choose to be stupid? Especially on the Internet, where you can be anything you want.

I'm serious. I think people have serious problems with being ignorant. You people live in the age of information, and you still somehow manage to be stupid. What's wrong with you?

Report as

Let me check myself...are you assuming we're all stupid? Because I'm concerned for yourself being stupid assuming and being judgemental like the rest of the ignorant people on this earth. Hypocrite much?

You apparently misread his question. Check yourself again. He didnt say everyone was stupid and all of the assumptions seem to be coming from you.
Report as
"You people" as in refering to all of us, we are all people.
Report as
I misread NOTHING.
Report as
You MUST have. He didnt say "we are all stupid" He said "Why do people choose to be stupid". That leaves it open for those that he is talking about. Those that are being stupid already know that he is talking to them. He has a valid point. People....(not all) seem to get off by acting ignorant and stupid. You can easily validate my point by reading some of the questions and answers that have been posted on here.
You taking offense to my comment makes me curious though.....
Report as
I wasn't taking offense? I was proving my point that he said "you people", we are all people here...I hope...which would mean including you and me. If he wants to be specific and make himself seem smart but calling out the other stupid people, then I will be just as specific.
Report as
He was talking about the stupid people. He was singling out people that purposely act stupid and ignorant. I think you did get offended.... You didnt need too.
Report as
He's being ignorant pointing out the stupid people though isn't he? That makes him stupid? Stupid people don't act stupid, that's a fact.
Report as
? No, he isnt being ignorant. He is merely frustrated. Stupid people DO act stupid though..... Not sure how you messed up that philosophy.
Report as
If they're acting stupid, then they aren't really stupid.
Report as
I see why neanderthl chose that name
Report as
Why??
Report as
If people are acting stupid... THEY COULD POSSIBLY BE STUPID. It isnt always an act.
This comment was NOT directed at everyone.
Report as
Harryoz... I read some of your answers to questions. It seems as though you are more intelligent than what that response led me to believe. You actually feel as though this question refers to everyone also?? You seemed to have more insight than that. Matter of fact.... I think your reference above is the only rude one that I have seen.
Report as
Yes, Slenderp misinterpreted my question. "You people" was referring to the "stupid people," and I was not talking on the basis of just "the unintelligent," but also the people who act stupid, usually by being ignorant.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, though, but your attempt to patronize me was rather null.
Report as
It was a nice insight, though, but just misinterpreted. I'm sorry if I offended you, but I shouldn't have anyways. I never really mean to do that to people.
Report as
but people are stupid? i mean.. we are literally devolving. i'd much rather be an orca whale or a cat rather than a person.. i mean damn, animals are awesome. you get to walk around naked and if you get fat your just cute and not gross.
Report as
I'd like to be a cat. I could be as lazy as I wanted and just bask in the sun, then come inside to be petted by my human who I am secretly planning to kill when my race takes over the world.
Report as
Although, I would probably show mercy to my human.
Report as
cats are awesome
Report as
Quite! Mine has odd tendencies.
Report as
mine is fat and lazy and doesn't do anything....

Some do it because they think it is funny. Then there are some who are truly stupid.

if your stupid then people coddle you, and atleast being fretted over is a form of attention in this shouting contest. congratulations, your question is one of the most intelligent i've seen all day.

That's a really nice insight on this. I like that word you used, also, "coddle". I'll add that to my list of words to start using.
Report as
lol it's one of my favorite words too, and thank you! you made my week just a bit better!
Report as
No problem. :)

I checked my dictionary app on my iPod. Apparently, I already had the word in my favorite section, but I never used it. xD Oh well, now I'll have something to remember it by. THIS. EXACT. MOMENT.

Funny yet sad isnt it?? Even Ask has spell check yet so many questions are'nt legible. Some of these people even put in their profile that they are wicked smart.... yet there is NO evidence to support this.

Some are not really as dumb as you might think. They might have difficulty expressing themselves. Others feign dumbness to be cute. Still others are just dumbbells.

Report as
Ah, yes. That's true. Some people are not really dumb, they may just act like it or just not show their intelligence. An example would be, possibly, the really smart people who are hooked on weed and act extremely lackadaisical, or the people who are held back because of mental disorders that might make it harder to learn. Nice insight.
Report as
Right, some do it to get you to do things for them. They butter you up by saying "you have such good mechanical ability" or "I'm so clumsy. I could never do that". Then they kick back and watch you sweat. Live and learn
Report as
That's actually a really good example. XD It shows their intelligence by taking advantage of you, even though they have the full capability of doing it themselves. Thus, you don't see them as an intelligent person, when really, the joke is pretty much all on you.
Report as
That's exactly what it does show!

Well there's plenty wrong with me, but stupidity isn't one of those things. Laziness, immaturity, and lack of education all contribute to stupidity all over the internet.

Report as
hey,i resemble that remark
Report as
Lol, yet you are not stupid... My formula must be off!
Report as
So your formula puts in both the aspects of acting stupid and being stupid in the sense of not having intelligence? Interesting. So, would this mean that being stupid would have to be both immaturity AND not having intelligence, thus separating both of those words until they come together to make stupidity?...

People go through stages of maturity and for each person its a growing experience.

Its conceited and naive to not allow space for others to be relatively immature on their growing path, and forgetful of ones own past.
Even the mighty lion is peaceful as the cubs frolic, bite his tail, snap at his nose and tumble off his back.

It's the technology that does it. Here we are, with our kindles and nooks, thinking we're intelligent because we're so superior to those with books, that we don't care what we're reading because we have the upper hand. We have the advantage over those without devices and we feel strong. But when the power goes out in your neighborhood, you're freaking out because your technology is failing you. Meanwhile, the people with their books are lighting your fireplaces and using candles to see, since your light-bulbs are out, as well, and now you're in the dark, crying and complaining that the power company isn't doing anything to help. Technology is not a mark of intelligence unless you know how to use it the way it was meant to be used. Cell phones are a perfect example. With a cell phone, you can send a text, get directions, surf the internet, get the time of day and so much more, yet the fact that you can make a phone call with it seems to have been lost and clouded by special features. I don't know what else to say about it.

Report as
What about the fact that technology opens up a whole word of intelligence, right in front of you? I don't think it's the technology, but rather the misuse of it. You can use an iPhone to quickly google up a fact of something, ANYTHING, but people use it to send texts of "LOL" and such, usually with something stupid to say along with the meaningless acronym.
Report as
I agree with you when you say misuse, however, someone could look something up on their phone, yet hand them a reference book and they won't know where to start. They'll almost instantly give up and revert to the phone.

First, this site is open to everyone, so there will be some people that are not as intelligent as others. Second, sometimes people are in a hurry or upset and they do not convey their thoughts in a orderly manner. Third, some people do not care. Fourth, it sounds like you are assuming everyone is stupid, which is a little offensive. The phrase "you people" makes it sound like it is you against us. Fifth, I agree that it is annoying when stupid questions and comments are in your face all of the time.

I wasn't assuming everyone was stupid. "You people" was directed to the actual stupid people. I meant no offense to EVERYONE who read this at all.

Nice insight, especially the second point you made.
Report as
If I mean to make something offensive, you would probably know.

Okay, Alric, thanks for the clarification! I shouldn't have assumed that you meant everyone...I think I was a little prickly that day. I like the way you said if you were offensive, I would know...I may have to follow you so I can see when you are offensive!!
Report as
Nah, don't do that just for the pleasure of seeing me livid. I try really hard to NOT be offensive, but sometimes my passion for particular subjects makes me...infuriated. It's rare when I get offensive, but sometimes it's easy to take my truthfulness as actually being offensive.

Offensiveness is getting overrated, but then again, different people find different things to be offensive...which is where defensive people come in, and so on. ^^

I wouldn't dream of following you for that reason! I followed you because I like the way you clarified your stand without backing down, complimented me, and then made a somewhat humorous remark. That's why!
Report as
Ah, ok. :P Well, thank you.
