What were trains like in the 1800s
were they popular? were they useful
They were useful for wiping out the buffalo, and making alot of the natives starve
Yeah cause you cant make a car run on coal
Trains weren't exactly the most practical thing in that time period, they were a lot of hassle. But over all, they were very useful in cross country transportation, especially that of large goods.
they helped in the expansion of the west but were dangerous and uncomfortable
They were the best mode of long distance cross country transportation. However they were noisy and smelled from the wood or coal used in the steam engine.
yes. They were not very comfortable. Very bumpy ride. The smoke and steam from the Locomotive engine would tend to flow over the passenger compartments, so you'd breathe it in. No AC so hot in summer, cold in winter.
smelly and dirty
