Catholic or Christian

Report as

Really, if you're going to ask a question like this, you should at least know what you're talking about. Like WaterDaOtter said...Catholics are Christian. Just like Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian...

Catholics fall under the "christian" or "evangelical" umbrella, but that doesn't make them the same thing. Catholics pray to saints, protestant christians believe that praying to a saint is idolatry. That's just one example of a major difference. I can list several more.

Yet another pet peeve (assuming Catholics are not christian)... and I'm not even Catholic.
Report as
Yes, each "branch" of the Christian religion has their minor differences...but we are all still Christians.
Report as
I never said that. I said there are theological differences. Or at lease, that what I was meaning to say.
Report as
And thanks WaterDaOtter...your hat is cute too. 8)
Report as
Some of the differences aren't so minor.
Report as
But I do agree that we should find common ground, focus on what we agree about instead of what we disagree about, and be united in love.
Report as
I understand that, that's why there are the different "branches". But...ultimately...they are all Christians. We are all striving for the same goal...
(I have to add my smiley face, I can tell this isn't typing out right)

I like Christian better though. It has Christ in it. What's the point of having two different names if it's the same thing though..?

That's the same as saying all animals are dogs or cows.Catholics are a division of Christianity just as Lutherans or Baptists. But Catholics,Lutherans and Baptists do not share all the same theology just as all animals do not share the same physical characteristics.

All Catholics, by default, are Christians; NOT all Christians are Catholics.

Catholics were the first Christians until the protestant reformation of Luther in 1507 that began a fracturing of Christianity into the 1000 various sects it has become today.

When people say they're Christian, they should say Protestant, because that would be more accurate. All Catholics are Christians. (if someone leaves an answer saying they are a Christian, they could still be Catholics)
.
It'd sound really stupid if someone asked you "are you Catholic?" and you responded, "No, I'm a Christian!" lol

That is exactly what I would say! I'm not a Catholic, I'm a Christian.
