dont gain it in fat, that will make you less healthy, start doing intense cardio workouts that get your heartrate up. that way you will burn all the fat, and build alot of muscle (which is actually heavier than fat is). if you do it right, then you will start gaining weight in muscle within 2 weeks, and then you will look good along with being healthy
When they say that you should get fatter, they mean mass, not literally fat. So in order to gain a HEALTHY weight. Just add more milk, cheese, and meat your your daily meals. Also eat more snacks in between, from fruits, cereal without milk, oatmeal, and much more, whatever you enjoy. Dont drink soda, no fast food, no fried food. And eat whatever you feel like eating. And two times a week take your time to go walking, or do 30 push ups. You're thinking why? Well, those excercises are enough to make you gain some shape (dont worry you wont bulk up lol) but enough for you to not lose calories, all you will be losing is bad fat, and gaining some shape. So stay healthy, and drink tons of water.

Try eating foods that are high in carbohydrates, like: pasta, breads, rice, etc., and eat large servings of them as often as you can. You should also make sure your diet is high in protein, but low in fat. Eating fatty foods (fast food, chips, etc.) is an unhealthy way to gain weight, bad for your heart & other organs, and it creates lumpy fat/cellulite.
You don't want to gain a bunch of fat by eating unhealthy foods, that would be more unhealthy than being underweight. You should start exercising so that you can gain some weight in MUSCLE and then eat as much as you want, but eat foods that will make you gain weight (protein shakes, or maybe add on a peanut butter sandwich to the meals you're already having).
protein! two eggs has as nuch protein as a tritip steak. protein has much healthy weight gain. also snacking, you could get a bag of chips, whether it be a healthy kind or not, and eventually your body will adjust and you will naturally get hungry more often. also drink lots of water! i hardly drink water and my weight took a dramatic fall becUse of it
