How can humans see pictures in their mind?

And feel temperatures and smell smells in their minds too.

Report as

I think we can feel and create temperatures more or less in our mind because our mind has nerves, and nerves are what cause the feeling, even if it is a fake one.
As for the images, we do NOT create them, our brain uses what it has seen only.
Seeing images or events used at random to create an image we can see by feeling it.
As toughts are in a way just nerves, and we actually are feeling the images, not really seeing them. Because what we see is the computer (for example). But what we feel and in a blurry way see are nerves.

So there cannot be any original created picture in your mind only what you have already seen? But right now I can look at any object in my room and imagine it bent or liquifying or burning. I have never seen that before. Then where would the brain store all of these "feelings" of images?

well wold if you have an imagination you can be original its just you cant think of a new color in your head because you have never seen it right dajer?
Report as
You can imagine the object being liquified because you have seen the act of liquifying itself.
So then your mind combines both images, the object you just saw, and the act of liquifying which you have seen it being done on other objects itself.
Where it is stored? In the brain, you just can't remember it.
You're brain is a 2nd head, so to speak, when you sleep, it is awake creating dreams of random events that are a combination of images or people it has seen throughout your life.
That is why when dreaming you see other people, but when wake up, can't identify them, but you're brain can.
This is hard to explain, but some people around the world have the ability to never forget anything, or have a superior memory.
Look up *savants*.

There is no new color. Thats like trying to think of the end of the universe. Not the best example im afraid.

@Yes, but you may use what you have seen in order to create new things.
Your brain is a craft shop, it has the metal and the hammer, it can't literally spawn/create something new, but it may use what it has to create a sword, for example.

Well someone had the first idea of a Wizard. No actuall remembered actions but just a pure concept of the Wizards capabilities and what he could do.

Or someone figured out the concept of a car.

@Dajer: True, thought might be created out of past experiences but you can mentally creat new experiences using what you know. And it could be that those new experiences where not sparked by something that was experienced in the past but by a pure creation of originality.

OMG that is a REALLY good question! I wish I knew so badly! All I know is that the Brain is the only organ that named itself! :b

our minds have a storage area allowing specific memories in a thoughts notice. I'm an artist, and I've self taught myself illusions of lined art, and I've got to say, we see things because our minds will logically put memories together . so quite literally, what you see in my drawings, might not be visible to someone else.

A storage aria? How come the most advanced computer cant even get close to what our mind is capable of? How exactly is this data "stored" in the meaty brain?
Report as
think of us as robots. all our organs are like the mechanical parts. our brain is the hard drive. if theres something wrong with an organ then we would consider ourselves broken. a brain can develope false memories, even through technology. because of deranged psychopaths, we know that by cutting someone's head open and pouring acid or hot water in, they would indeed still function, but they wont be normal again, (aka "zombie slave") just as if you fried your hard drive. how exactly it is stored, is within 'brain cells' that pass messages using electrical currents that traces back to memories 'burned' into that area, as for temperatures and smells, the same memory will be in many locations of the brain in order to comprehend what each of our sensors have analysed. for instance, what we see, hear, feel, smell, and our sixth sense, is stored in different locations, but are connected with memories similar and lead to each database.
