Is it ok to say the n word if your just singing to a song (ie; "Dirt off your shoulder")

it's just a simple question and I don't mean too offend anybody

NO! If you sang that in front of me, I'd be offended and walk away because I'm partially black. It's NEVER okay to use the "n" word, even in a song.

Why do so many black people call each other that?

I have no clue! I actually don't go to public school lol :) my mom said that in their language, n!99@ means "brother" or something like that

regardless of the circumstance, regardless of what "other ignorant people" around me were doing, I would NEVER do it. EVER

your welcome! And I just want to add to Benmin that NO MATTER WHAT you hear "others" calling one another, does not make it okay. I know you were just asking, and I am not jumping in your case at all, I am just saying I have never been a "follower". And, believe me, it is not just in public schools this is done. It is done everywhere ignorant people reside.

Im 27 I know how the world works. Everyone can be racist to their own race but dont be racist to a different race or prepare to fight. Unless your white then everyone can be racist to you and we just laugh about it. I dont take offense to being called a honkey, or white trash, just dont take offence if I call you something back in return.

Benmin I understand your p.o.v. What I am saying is this "In today's seemingly educated society, our vocabulary is, as it should be, much more advanced than using derogatory terms towards or about one another. What a person does or says within their own race is up to them. What a person does and says TO another race is an entire form of disrespect. I too know how the world works. I have worked in the public school system for many years and know both sides. I respectfully can agree to disagree.

If a parent is racist then the kid probably will be to. Our educated society knows how to work computers and make the man made system run, that is all.

YES!!! I TOTALLY agree with ya on that. Racism is NOT something a person is born with. Racism is TAUGHT. Sad but true. Yes, our society can teach so very much, yet they cannot seem to educate enough ignorant people on racism. Sad but true.

as long as you don't mean anything by it - I guess it is OK, though I wouldn't do it.

I was just kidding. I actually find it offensive when I hear people say it, although I am white. It just shows how ignorant people can be. I didn't mean to offend you.

I think using that word in any form is not only disrespecting, degrading, offensive, but shows how limited a person's vocabulary truly is. It originated during the slave times, and we are NOT in those times now. It is sad that we ever were to begin with. To say it, and say "it's okay, others do it", to me says, "it's okay to be racist". I don't care who disagrees with me. It is my opinion. And, before the question is even asked or implied, I am white....not that it should even matter.
