My dog is shaking or shivering and crying . what does it mean

he is a 3 month pit bull. we leave him in the basement and its not that cold.

Goodness! Really? He's a baby, he's scare & needs human interaction. He's got to be talked to, loved, petted and not isolated from people. Why did you get a dog if you are going to leave it in the basement? Its just plain cruel. He needs to be loved and be part of the family. please bring him upstairs, love and train him.

He may be having a seizure. Don't bother him too much because it could scare him and cause him to tense up. If its a little cold move him into another room that's warmer and see if that helps.

Why do you leave him in the basement? It probably has attachment issues. If it is young - 3 months old, it should be kept around you not away from you.
Dogs shake and tremble for all kinds of reasons ranging from excitement to pain, old age, even nausea.

Maybe it is lonely? Maybe it gets colder as you stay down there longer?

"Not that cold" is a relative term. It may not be that cold to you but to a young pup it could very well be. On another note those are all signs of pain. I would get him to a vet immediately and have him checked out.

He's not accustomed to being alone, is my guess. That is like locking up a small child in the basement alone. No wonder your dog is showing signs of severe distress.

He's a puppy. He's lonely, scared and probably cold. "it's not that cold" doesn't say much. Is it colder than any room _you_ are in? If it is, then it is WAY too cold for such a young pup. If its the same temperature as the upstairs, but has a cold cement floor, then that poor dog is still too cold.
But mainly, the poor thing is scared and LONELY! Bring the dog upstairs where it belongs, and gently show him what he needs to know. At this age, human interaction and friendly interaction with other animals is very important to healthy emotional development. :)

This situation is so sad to me. I have a pit bull and all she wants is to see me and hear my voice. That puppy needs love and attention! He needs structure and to be trained. Sad

Being from a farm background I have had a lot of experience with animals. Once I had a friend over so I put my pet in a different room. He hissed at everyone, shaked,"cried" as you would say. Your animal feels neglected. Try to let him out a little time a day or go down there and play with him for at least 30 minutes. If that doesn't help then you might want to see a vet.
