The gunman was 20-year-old Adam Peter Lanza, who was born on April 22, 1992, in Kingston, New Hampshire, where his parents Peter and Nancy had been married in 1981. He had attended Newtown High School, where he had been an honors student. An aunt of his said his mother had removed him from the Newtown public school system because she was unhappy with the school district's plans for her son. Lanza subsequently was home-schooled by his mother and earned a GED. He did not have a criminal record. Adam Lanza attended Western Connecticut State University beginning in summer 2008. He excelled in computer science and economics courses, but struggled with philosophy.
Lanza's parents divorced in September 2009. Adam and his mother were supported by alimony paid by his father, a corporate executive.
Lanza lived with his mother at her house in Sandy Hook, 5 miles (8 km) from the elementary school. She was a gun enthusiast who, according to an acquaintance, often took her two sons to a local shooting range. Her former sister-in-law, Marsha Lanza, said that Nancy stayed home to take care of Adam. Marsha Lanza also recalled that Nancy was a survivalist, who had turned her home into "a fortress" in which she was stockpiling guns and food to prepare for a possible apocalyptic event associated with the collapse of the economy. -- from the wiki. Not sure. But I don't think we should focus on him. I think we should all forget he ever existed so his name will not live on in infamy. I think we should instead try and remember the names of the students and teachers.
