When people in movies/TV shows are drinking a little bit of brown liquid, what is that?

I assume it's scotch, but what else could it be?

a lot of times it is *really* colored water or some other drink, often they have to do several takes and it is hard run lines and not mess up if you are all tipsy :)

PrescenceDear

I once heard an actor say that the prop team created a drink to look like liquor, but it was just fruit juice. If it's beer, it may be O'douls.

I heard once they used apple juice because it looks alot like many hard beverages. Also tea which can be brewed to vaious strenths. Grape juices for the 'red' wines and spirits. They cant use real alcohol. As many takes as they do usually theyd be dead drunk and unable to work.

Most actors prefer sugared tea to simulate a drink like whiskey, rum, etc.

Apple juice (Dean Martin always drank it) or cold sweetened tea.
