Do you think that our founding fathers would have written the second amendment as it is written if it meant that any person

walking the city streets could carry semi automatic weapons?

Yes, did you know you can't have guns in Chicago? Crime rates are higher there then in places that do have guns. If people want to get a job done they will get it done, if its making a bomb or using a knife. People wont want to mess with you if everyone has a gun. They are just trying to use the Connecticut thing as a reinforcer, they are horrible on the same day they were talking about gun laws! They didn't even give time to mourn.

Preach it. This is going to make the carry law big down. I live in a leafy northern part of the city and crime is coming up here because people have money. Can't wait for carry law b

If people don't want to mess with you if you carry a gun why do people who are armed in the military get shot at? Why do police get shot at? What about suicide by cop?

The current discussion concerns a ban on assault weapons. I fail to see how this restricts any legitimate hunter or target shooter or anyone concerned for their personal safety. In most states, cities, etc. you can legally purchase and own firearms if you can pass a background check. Assault weapons were designed for military use specifically to kill. What legitimate use does a private citizen have to own one? Useless for hunting, target practice...there are much better guns for accurate shooting.

Does an assault weapons ban be put in place by states already? As far as I'm aware, I'm already not allowed to purchase assault weapons without being military.

They are good for self defence, you don't have to be accurate.

They have it right. If someone is planning on shooting someone obviously a law stating you can't carry a gun won't stop them. It's best for those who want legal protection

I doubt they would have written it differently. The only thing gun restriction laws would do is keep people who use guns the right way from being able to use them. Think about pot here for a sec. Is it illegal? Yes it is. Is it still used by people who just want to get high? Yes it is. Can it be used by people who would use it for proper medical purposes? No it can't. The same would happen to guns.

Yes I do. When a weapons ban is put in place then law breaking citizens own guns. Better that trained law abiding citizens do. When they wrote the second amendment, everybody owned a gun for hunting. They were trained. That's what gets lost. Weapon training.

I do think it would be nice to require at least a basic training before you could own a gun. That way everyone would be prepared.

In Illinois. The last state to let you carry guns. We will probably have the toughest conceal and carry law but I agree with it. I've been to ranges watching guys shoot side arm gangster style. They can't hit a target 15 feet in front of them. They always ask what they are doing wrong. Got to look cool shooting. Right?

Don't think we had semi-autos in the 1700's. I could be wrong. 2nd amendment also mentions 'well regulated'. Problem here is : you give the anti- gunners an inch, they'll try to take a mile. I am a proud NRA member.

I think they never thought that Americans would have turned their back on God. They probably never thought that the familys of Americans would have broken down like they are now. If they had known that the only thing standing in the way of the New World Order was the second amendment. They might have added that ownership is mandatory and must be advanced with improvements of the weapons.
