Should I get a German Shepherd or a Border Collie?

I have wanted a smart dog for quit some time and I heard that both German Sheps and Border Collies are both very intelligent. I also know that Sheps require a good amount of activity and I'm not sure I could provide 100% of that activity they need. I also am going to attempt to train my new bud some unique tricks like how to follow a person and keep and eye on them (I have mischievous kids) along with others and I know that both dogs are relatively easy to train. I would also like to keep in mind their individual medical problems. Anyone have any advice for me?

Id say a collie because german shepards can be very violent even if you train them well. My neighbors have a german shepard since he was born and trained him VERY well but he is still very agressive and bites children so if you have children i would recommend the border collie. Also, German shepards require A LOT of exercise in order to keep them from getting riled up and excited but even with exercise they can be very dangerous.

All German shepherds are different as long as u get a nice quit one they will be good dogs but lots of energy.
Border collies are great dogs too, and vary friendly with anyone & and are vary smart so either way u will get a great dog, but if u want a energetic dog then shepherd, if not collie is a good choice.

I would have to recommend the border collie, they are not as aggressive. They can still be as hyper an energetic as the German Shepard, but are good family pets. My family has owned both breeds and I would most definitely get a border collie over a German Shepard. Plus border collies don't get as big so they won't be such a hassle if you plan on having this dog as an indoor companion.

OMG! This is going to be really hard cause I love both. But they both have there good and bad points. If you want a working, smart and loyal dog than go for the border collie. But the require a lot of exercise and time. A german shepherd is very loyal, smart, can be a working dog but if you have a family it will not be suited because it only has one master. They too also need a lot of exercise and time. German Shepherd also need really high fences cause they can jump high.
