Can you die just because you want to?

okay I know it's a weird question but in Star Wars, Padmae dies because she's simply "lost the will to live" I just wanted to know if there's any truth to that

My Step Mom was in a coma for 2 years. Doctors said she'd never wake up. My dad sat by her side, that entire time. One day, she just wakes up. Doctor gives her a clean bill of health. About a year later, my Dad was diagnosed with Hep C. About 6 months after he was diagnosed, he passed away. My step mom was devastated. Not even one month after my dad passed away, my Step mom passed away. The doctors said, nothing was wrong with her, that she must have died from a broken heart. Do I believe you can lose the will to live, and just die? Oddly enough, I do.

Yes, someone can die from a broken heart. I've seen it happen too many times.

Honestly, don't think I'm insensitive at all, but when the doctor told me this. I kind of laughed it off. I was under A LOT of stress. But didn't believe it. Now, 7 years later, and a much clearer head. I believe it.

Depression can kill you. It can do a lot of harm to your body. My uncle is under so much stress he has an ulcer and he can't see right.

I've had a pretty tough life. Seems like if it's bad, it's happened to me. That's why I'm so full of advice, and my advice comes from having experienced it, not looking it up on wiki.

Yes, that saying fits my life perfectly. hehe. And I do read on the wiki, but don't ever quote it on here. Since who knows if what it says is true. Considering anyone can go and change it. Did you know that?

Yes, I knew someone could edit Wiki. They can edit it and it shows up immediately and goes under a review board there later, but it could be up there a few days before incorrect info is removed. Usually though most people who do edit Wiki do so because they have the qualifications to do so...but any of us here could edit Wiki if there was an item we wanted to add to a topic of which we knew of. But...there could always e some nut out there I guess who feels he/she has a right to edit incorrectly as a joke. In fact, there is an Ask answer someone gave about almost a year ago about how to edit Wiki and I'm sure it would pop up if researched on the Ask sight .

No, thats Hollywood fantasy. You can kill yourself but in Gods eyes that is a sin, and you will suffer eternally.

Yes but God and a wide variety of other people, not just christians, see it as selfish. Maybe He won't but I wouldn't chance it.

According to Gods word, you must repent your sins, when you commit suicide there is no more repentance.

Actually she died during child birth as Anakin "predicted" and merely didn't "fight for her will to live". You can die own your own, there are various ways to do so one example being sitting in a bed forever not eating, drinking, or taking care of yourself.

It's when you have the hiccups and someone tells you to drink water or drink it upside down, well technically that doesn't work, hiccups are caused by a muscle spasm but since you believe it works it does.

Exactly, Our subconscious mind is an amazing thing. It's also why people say trust your instincts/gut. Our subconscious collects all the information our senses gather, however since most of it is not important it does not alert our conscious brain. That's why body language is so important to us, it's all pretty kool stuff.

When people have no reason to live,they die more quickly.So in a word ...yes.People that are are depressed and lonely,die quicker than those with family and a more upbeat attitude.

Yes, it is possible, people can die from a broken heart, they just give up the will to live.

There have been documented cases where people have lost the will to live and have died. Usually it is brought about by extreme trauma or deprivation. A lot of elderly die soon after their spouse dies. There are documented cases where men adrift at sea would lose the will to live and would die for no apparent reason whereas more mature men would hang on until rescued. There are also documented cases of people dying in concentration camps, prisons and situations where they could have survived but just chose to give up. No one can really say how this happens for sure. It would be very hard for someone to suddenly say I wish to die and then just fall over dead. The process requires a lack of will to live and some time to happen. Maybe as little as three days depending upon the health age and situation.

Well, if you lose the will to live you don't have any reason to do the things that keep you alive like eating and drinking. It's a sad thing to see someone give up like that but it's their decision and you have to abide by it. You can't force a person to want to live.
