Why are celebrity testimonials an effective technique in advertising?

Because a lot of people are blind sheep that only need the minorest bit of suggestion to go and do as they're told and follow what the "cool person" says to do.....celebrities are held in a higher regard, cherished if you will, so people tend to believe that they care in return, but the celebrities are almost always only in it for the loot and couldn't care less about the rest of us pe-eons......maybe 8)

People figure if they use the product it has to be good .
