I love a lot of the names people have already listed! I generally give pets people-type names, or a name for an outstanding physical feature like "Cheeks" (because of her way-fluffy cheeks) or for a quirk like "Buzzer" (who was fascinated by anything that buzzed, hummed or dinged). But, generally, just pick a 1-2 syllable name that is distinct enough for the dog to recognize easily as its name, and not a command or something else confusing. For example: a guy I knew named his bulldog "Spit". It was a smart dog who learned a bunch of commands and tricks. However, he only ever learned how to "sit" with a hand gesture -- he could never distinguish the verbal command from his name! : )
After a favored sports star or actor/actress. A name referring to a personality quirk unique to your dog. My mom named her little pup Hush Hush because it was always whimpering and it started to respond to it.
