The individual's that have DS look similar because that is a trait of the disease. I don't know what it does or how it affects them though. I've been in touch with kids that have DS and to me, they are intelligent, happy, they love others and they are aware if "someone" is mean, nice, sad and so on. That is from my view. I believe it's valid though.

They look similar because of the same chromosome malfunction in all. Google Downs Syndrome or the old fashioned term Mongoloid, better yet Chromosomal Defects-trisomy.

Many people look similar because of the same chromosomal defect. There are various ranges of disability associated with DS. They, like anyone, have very different levels of functioning. Many have a hard time speaking because of the way their mouths and tongues are shaped, but are capable of communication if you are patient. Many people with DS are also born with heart defects. I could go on and on about individuals with DS, having worked in Special Education and coaching special olympics for years. If you want to learn more about individuals with down syndrome, check out www.NDSS.org they have a lot of good info!
