What's the best way to improve my C++ programming ?

I need to learn two topics for exam :- linked lists ,stacks,queues...and data file handling..

These are very much new to me as I missed the classes..
I tried reading em from a book...I can understand what it is ...but in the exam im ...blank...completely blacked out.

How to learn these ? more effectively and well, permanently ?

install DevC++, give it 4 hrs a day
