Victims Of Check Fraud: Who is responsible? And will the consumer have to pay back the bank?

Looked online for more information concerning this topic, it's pretty vague. Just a lot of information about how to prevent it, not much on what to do if you're already past that point.

I do believe I answered your question about this the other day. What a lot of people don't realize is, a check is a contract. You signed that contract. You are responsible for it. All you can do about it, without talking to an attorney, is chalk this up to a lesson learned and move on. Next time, you'll know not to do anything foolish like this again.

different question hun. The other day I asked what if I sent the check to someone else, and they didn't use the money as directed. This time I asked if I was the victim of check fraud, such as someone sending me a fraudulent check, I cashed it and sent it on. I'm writing a report for my business class.

As soon as discovered the account holder has to notify: the bank and police. If not done in a timely manner then the account holder can be held responsible for a good chunk of money.

So the account holder isn't responsible for the money? all the information I found stated that the account holder would still be held responsible for the money

You are reading into this what you want to read into it. If you cashed a check that someone wrote to you then you are responsible. If a third party is fraudulently writing checks from your account different story. But you may be held esponsible for some of the checks written. Again timely notification to bank and police. The bank will want to see the police report. If it's someone accessing your account I hope you closed it.
