Am I in a serious relationship?

I'm 20 and my boyfriend is 18. We met in 2010 and dated in 2011 for a month then broke up. We got back together after 8 months and are now together for 8 months with our second chance. We are more committed this time but our communication is based on texting because we don't get to see each other often, like twice a month on average. Some of our meeting-up is during other people's events and thus we do not have a lot of alone-time together. I told my parents about him in the beginning and he let his parents know about me 4 months into the relationship. He never let his parents know about his ex who he dated for 2months only. He wanted to take me on holiday with his family before but i refused his invite. Our friends know about us being in a relationship as well but we are still very shy together around other people. We do love each other.

Would you consider this to be a serious relationship?

A lot of people have relationships that are long distance and are serious and solid. Yours may not be long distance, but sort of. You should communicate more directly, not texting, more often. People can 'hide behind a phone' using texting, but you really get to know someone when you talk, they don't have time to rethink their conversation. Saying stupid things sometimes is just part of life, everybody does. But you need to get to know the real him, his ideas, Freudian slips, human side. It's hard to do when all you have to base your opinion on is texts.
