Did the 2012 hoax go too far?

Report as
fritzmerde

This is at least the 6th end of the world prediction I recall. Jehovah's Witness followers have had 2 ends, Heavens Gate, Jones Chapel, Branch Dravidians, so it happens every now and then

no. that was a misunderstanding on our part. later on we realized our mistakes and corected them. we believe that only Jehovah God knows when the world will end.

What was the 2012 hoax? Am I living under a rock?

he means the end of the world thing on friday.

It's not a hoax. It probably began as a misunderstanding, and people just love apocalypse stuff, so it was a recipe for disaster.

It's a kind of hoax though, seeing as the world was predicted to end 6 times now, and not one of them was even close. If the world were supposed to end because of the Mayans, it would have been several months ago because the calendar didn't account for Leap Year.
Report as
Ya I know that. But I'm not sure if it's a hoax if it's unintentional
Report as
I think actually it was unintentional, but NASA did find a meteor that was heading towards Earth and that's what started this whole thing. I think they've got it in a different path now, though
Report as
What disaster? Hardly anyone actually believes it and no one has panicked like they did for the Y2K thing.

"The end of the world" on Friday
Report as
no. 12/21/12... what is the eagle and the baby?
Report as
Umm, idk what the eagle and the baby thing is, sorry. did an eagle snatch a baby or something?
Report as
Yeah. There's a video that came out yesterday that shows a large eagle swooping down and picking up a baby at a park with the parents taking the video. He lifts the baby up about 5 feet in the air before dropping it and flying away.
Report as
0.0 that. is. terrifying.
Report as
It ended up being a hoax from some video editing company that had a contest for its employees.
Report as
phew. that's good then. it's not okay, but it's good that a baby didn't get killed by an eagle.

I know its on 12-21-12 (Date that world ends) but what do you mean by "go too far"?

He means "Have people taken it too seriously and have they done too many bad things thinking they're getting away with it?"
Report as
well he was really scared about it earlier..... i think thats what he meant... that so many people are freaked out about it now.
Report as
But they're freaked out for no reason because the world isn't going to end. The Mayan calendar didn't account for Leap Year, so if the world were supposed to end it would have happened several months ago.
Report as
exactly. that is why he is asking if this whole thing went too far. what i dont think he has realized however... is that it isnt just a publicity stunt. the calandar was made a long time ago... so that wouldnt qualify as a hoax.
Report as
Yeah, it was unintentional. It didn't help that NASA spotted a meteor heading towards Earth. I think they've got it in a different path now, though

I don't think so, only stupid people actually believe it. It provided some fun themes for parties during 2012.
