Should kids be treated as adults in court? why?

I have to do a debate in class, and I am on the side I did not want to be on... I have to say that kids should be treated as adults in court.... If you have any ideas of what I could say that would be very helpful. If you use statistics it would be awesome and I will love u for ever!

It depends on the age and the situation.
If a 13 year old shot someone then yes they should be tried as an adult because there old enough to know what there doing..
Thats just one of my takes on it.

I'll try but I'm not the greatest at explaining things.
Kids now are gettin ahold of drugs. Theres kids sexually harrassing other kids, by kids i mean young "teens" like 11-14 year olds.

There's a great argument i've seen that has been taken is kids only bully and abuse other kids because thats what happened to them. Yes that is usually true but unless your a 2 year old hitting another child, you know better.
Theres 10 and up that beat the daylights out of each other everyday at school.

If you can act like an adult you more than likly should be treated like one in a court situation.
That is a point I might try to fit in there if I were on the side you were on.

yes. i think that kids should be treated as adult in court, bcuz a kid the age of 12 is capable of doing some harsh crimes that an adult can. i think that if a child doesnt want to act like a child, and a child wants to do crimes..then they shouldnt be treated as a child-they should be treated as a criminal-and adults should be treated as a criminal as well in the eyes of the court..

well, if they are old enough and grown up enough to do the crime, then they are old enough and grown up enough to do the time, they wanted to play with the big boys, they should get their wish

Depends on the severity of the crime ! Murder , mass murder , bank robbery , and kidnapping , they should be tried as adults . Minor crimes , juvenile court is fine !

Depending upon the severity and nature of the crime would decide how to charge the kid.

Kids should be treated as adults in court when they have committed heinous crimes which cause death, sever injury (or could have caused death or injury) and if it took planning, and forethought to accomplish this.

This is to differentiate between a kid making a 'rash' impulsive childish decision (like the 10 or 12 year old in Fla about 10 years ago who 'body smashed' his little nephew on his head and killed him because he was emulating what he saw on WWF on TV.) versus the kid who is involved in drugs or crime, and is planning to kill or hurt someone. Especially if it involved illegal activity.

Also repetitive offenders are subject to treatment as adults. There should be NO get out of jail card if someone keeps repeating the same mistakes.

i worked at a juvenile detention center for a couple of years. it does depend on the severity of the crime, and also the situation..... i have seen teen boys in because the girlfriends dad caught them together and the girl claimed that he made her do it, the boy goes to jail on a sexual offense because the girl was to afraid to admit that she was sexually active. do i believe that a kid in this position should be charged as an adult... no. Now on the other hand a kid holds down a person and literally rapes or molests them, yes they should be charged as an adult. u have to look at the whole pic to get ur answer on the charges. What made them do it, did they really do what they are bein charged with, how serious is the crime, and are they repeat offenders.
