The whole point in using letters in algebra is give a "place holder" for something you don't know, but with an equation can find out. If I know that one apple costs 25 cents, and I want to buy 3 apples and want to find out the cost of 3 apples (X), an equation might look like 25 x 3= X, or 75 cents is the value of X or 3 apples.

Log refers , I think with a logarithm like sine, cosine, and tangent found in trigonometry. Ask your teacher to break it down.

There's absolutely no point to algebra if you're planning a career flipping hamburgers at McDonald's.
