If you absolutely HAD to be another religion what would it be?

Besides atheist/agnostic.
And what were you originally?

Why choose hinduism? Hinduism is polytheistic, you aware of that, right?
Moreover it supports caste system and untouchability.

im not actually switching. i took this question lightly.
it just seems like a nice religion from the outside, im not actually planning on switching.

Yeah, i get that. Just wanted to let you know that there are way better(?) religions other than hinduism.

I'm a proud atheist. I was born in a hindu family. As said by other proud atheists, i'd rather be dead. But if i had a choice of getting born in a religious family, i'd wish it to be christian. Because, i believe it is flexible(!) and has lesser religious customs.

Woah! Sounds like "religion" to me if u are willing to forfeit your life over a position/philosophy. I too feel that I'm willing to loose my life if I was ever demanded to change what I believe about my world view of Christ as my savior and Lord....same as u apparently, just a different occasion to be willing to die over. I'm not saying that is ridiculous in itself only that it seems that atheism is hardly worth dying over since it claims to be a "belief" (well at least how most atheists I've talked...maybe not u?).
Report as
Well I wouldn't be dying because I can't be an atheist. I wouldn't die for atheism. I would never suicide bomb a church or anything like that. I'd be dying because someone is forcing me to live a certain way and be something that I'm not and I am not going to be dictated by anyone.
Report as
Ah, perhaps I mis interpreted the "hanging yourself" part. I think I understand u better now. ;)

Actually trusty, I see your new here, but if you follow Dk you'll see he is quite a bit different then your average Christian and although calls Himself Christian he is not among, what I would call the blindly follow along
Christian. He is very well versed in the history and problems with mainstream religion.
Report as
Dang it Seedy, you're gonna make me cry sayin stuff like that! Lol
Trusty is relatively new, however him and I have had some pretty lengthy and detailed discussions. However, In fact he is someone I respect and enjoy relating with. It's kind of funny, but I often relate easier with atheists that seem to be honest and respectful then plenty of people that rush to the title "Christian". To me as a "Christian" people are not my enemy, but rather hate and destruction are (something I call "Satanic"). I can never be your judge, but at most a challenger to doubt and at least an encourager towards ultimate Truth (which for me must be God).
Report as
So either of u celebrate Christmas? I have recently heard that it's common for atheists to celebrate Winter Solstice....
Report as
Does seedy think I was insulting you or something? I don't get what the reason was for that comment. I don't think I'm very new here. I've been on here for almost a year as Littllepp but I recently just made this account because I can't use Littllepp anymore. Anyway, yea I celebrate Xmas. Not winter solstice though. Is winter solstice different than Xmas?
Report as
Lepp,
Well he may have had a certain preconception in mind combined with a couple comments we recently exchanged...I'm pretty sure meant nothing negative against u, but rather was just being kind to me in light of recent exchanges we had just prior.

I actually didn't realize u have been on Ask for that long either, Sorry lol
So, yeah winter solstice I guess marks an old pagan celebration that the catholic church way back "changed" to celebrate the birth of Christ....Christmas. I have heard that it is or has become popular among atheists to essentially skip Christmas and celebrate the winter solstice...perhaps as a specifically "un-Christian" expression idk.
Report as
Oh yea I know about the pagan origin of christmas and how christians basically stole it. I've never heard of a lot of atheists that skip Xmas but I guess that's just the ones that are more offended or bothered by christianity than the average atheist. I'm not sure why though since Xmas isn't really a christian holiday. Well have a happy holiday!
Report as
I celibate Christmas as my wife is Christian. I celebrate as a family day and not a religious holiday
Report as
Here too- my family are mostly Italian Catholics, so I celebrate with them. I'd probably never hear the end of it if I didn't.
Report as
Seedy,
Wow, that must be fun being married to a Christian! Lol
Of course I can't assume it's either wonderful or horrible, nor do want to pry too much. :)
Thanks for sharing that.
Report as
Skeptikitten, Lepp,
Yes, family is one of many things that most all of us care deeply about. I'm actually not super "hard core" in terms of the religious element of Christmas though I always take opportunity to reflect on Jesus being born every time. It just seems a little "reductio ad absurdum" to reduce the significance of the birth of Jesus to one day. In reality it's mostly a family time and good traditional ethnic foods that involves how we celebrate. Merry Christmas everyone!

If I had to change my religion from something other than being a Christian, I would go on my own kind of Spirit quest. I would go to the one place I have felt closest to God, turn inward to close out all things created by man and seek the perfect peace that I know lives somewhere inside my body. I would wait there until my God found me. I say this because if I was forced to forsake my Christian beliefs, I know my God would never forsake me.

One cannot simply choose to believe something that he or she does not, regardless of what many religious people claim about "choosing god".
As an atheist, I don't have a religion to convert FROM, but if I was forced somehow to claim one, I would choose an atheistic philosophy like Buddhism or Taoism.

I think I'd be Muslim. I don't know, I feel like they're terribly misunderstood. Of course, they're guilty of believing fantastic tales that have no basis in reality too, but I know quite a few, and they're all very interesting people.

You know...
All muslims are different, even though some of the rules are strict, and the language challenging for others to read, it's a great religion. It is the right path for all people, especially those who are lost in life. They are misunderstood. Some might be terrorists from Al Queda, or an average person of your k.ind

I've known my share. Great people. I sternly disagree with your claim that it is the right path for all people. We need to be increasingly free from religion to ever hope for a brighter future.

Generally, when people have HAD to change their religion, they changed it to whoever was the biggest bully on the block at the time. So Buddhist probably wouldn't be an option.Anyway you can't really force people to change what they believe, you can only force them to pretend /lie .

Hmm. I do believe in One God, Jesus, Angels, Demons, Hell, etc. However, I also believe in science. So I guess . . . .
I frankly don't know. I find pre-Christian religions (It has been brought to my attention that 'Pagan' is somehow an offensive word and is inaccurate ) fascinatingly entertaining (in a good way). However, I don't agree with their views.
This is a tricky question. Everyone finds logic in what they believe. I've found logic in what Ii believe. Therefore, my answer is this: I don't know. If I was reborn into different circumstances, possibly, but I can't imagine what I would believe in then. Frankly, I don't have a clue.
