Why does my hermit crab never come out of his shell, he is not dead because he is still inside his shell.

I know hermit crabs don't move much but, this one doesn't move at all. Not even to get food or turn himself over when the others tip him.

There is no need to worry; there are ways to make your hermit crab more active. You should ensure that it has enough space around it and that it is not cramped up. Secondly, create an environment for it to explore in the tank. For further instructions, check http://www.ehow.com/how_7726667_make-hermit-crabs-active.html.
