You are in good company here on Ask.

Good company, but in a room full of overzealous theists.

That's not an answer to the question. Nobody asked you if you are an atheist - so why offer such needless information?
Report as
cutsandscars
No one asked for your comments either, so why offer needless information?
I said that because she asked if I believed God punishes people, and I said no, and I gave my reason why I don't think so. You know, you really shouldn't say yes or no to something without having a reason why.

I don't think it's God's doing. I believe its just the universe working itself out.

Then what do you think about people who live their life trying to do good and no matter how hard they try bad shit keeps happening, and then the people who do evil and live life to the fullest? What do you think about them?

fyi ... Karma is for those who don't believe in a God. Just saying.

If you're a Christian ... why, God doesn't punish anyone who accepts Him and confesses their sins. Isn't that handy? Depending on which sect of Christianity you believe, the CT shooter could be in Heaven - or not, based solely on his suicide.

As to whether or not people who do wrong get punished in life ... there is no scientific evidence that "what goes around, comes around".

Nope , it's just luck here on earth. Although God has the power to punish he does not because his son paid for all our wrong doing past, present & future. Judgement for wrong doing will be dealt out after death from this earth.

I used to but I just don't know anymore.... I like to think everybody gets what they deserve, but if you believe that and you're a good person and something goes really wrong, it's like what did I do to deserve this?!?!

It takes a complex intelligence to accept that there is no evil.
Report as
Lol... Or a different point of view, I don't think it has anything to do with intelligence, I think it has more to do with personal experiences and what you've gained from them. Or lost... Also the definition of evil comes into perspective.

Behold, I am coming soon, and I shall bring My wages and rewards with Me, to repay and render to each one just what his own actions and his own work merit. (Revelation 22:12 AMP)===================================But because you are stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God?s righteous judgment will be revealed. He will judge everyone according to what they have done. He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers. But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness. (Romans 2:5-8 NLT)

Truth is, God doesn't really punish the people on earth... Wish he did though!!! Certainly are some people who deserve it... I wonder if it's all the luck of the draw, or if we create our own luck... There won't be any punishment until after death.. That's a bit saddening don't you think? The evil won't ever turn from their ways because they won't even care. Nothing to stop them from continuing, nothing to make them think twice. Why would peoples suffering matter, it didn't before hand.

Curiosity.........Many times in our lives, we do what we know is sinful, and it seems to go unnoticed by the Lord. We appear to prosper and have the Lord's blessing, but the Lord's purpose in this is to allow us to harvest what we have sown. We may still have God's blessings. Yet, at the end of our lives, we will be able to look back and say that everything we have sown, we have harvested. When we sow wheat, we harvest wheat. When we sow barley, we harvest barley. When we sow sin unto the flesh, we reap corruption. We learn to understand the sinfulness of sin by that which God rewards us according to our sin.

Bobby did not answer the question.
He merely copied scripture ... without saying anything of his own opinion.

Or are you claiming Bobby is the one who wrote the scripture, and thus it is his opinion?

Or maybe that anytime anybody quotes something, it is only because it is their opinion - written by somebody else?
Report as
Lol, seeing as how it is MY question... I think no one here really answered... What do you THINK... And no Harem, I am not being presumptuous, I am reading what his reply was. I do not believe in "GOD" or scriptures. Not in the sense that you do anyways. A higher power? YES. Jesus Christ? NO... None of you really answered the question, though at least bobby brought some information to the table. Harem just repeated it, and a few people previously actually answered. What you think and believe are different then a scripture... Being punished after death is still a punishment, but I mentioned KARMA, which is during life...

Judgment is after death or if Jesus comes first. Whoever repents & believes in Jesus will be in heaven.
As far as here on earth : we reap what we soe. For instance : you rob a bank and get shot by a cop or you beat somebody up ; you go to jail. If you get drunk and drive ; you get killed in a wreck. Or if you have an affair ; you wreck your marriage. We bring punishment upon ourselves.

Wish one of them would do it. Is it so wrong to want the evil to suffer as much as they make others suffer?
Report as
Nope. Not at all. But, I don't think that if someone killed another person that the killer should be shot in the head and their entire family commited to a camp to brainwash them.
Yeah, I'm a little worried about my dad.

2 Peter 3:3-7
"First of all you must understand this,
that scoffers will come in the last days
with scoffing, following their own passions and saying . "Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things have continued as they were from the
beginning of creation." They deliberately ignore this fact , that by the word of God heavens existed long ago, and an earth formed out of water
and by means of water, through which
the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist have been stored up fire, being kept until the day of judgement and destruction of ungodly men." (Revised Standard Bible)

In order for Karma to be real, there would need to be some supernatural record of wrongdoings vs good deeds. SInce there is none, Karma doesn't actually exist. However!--

It's quite possible that a human brain would create a link between two events that would make it seem quite convincing that it's experiencing "Karma".

They will be held accountable on judgement Day unless they repent and make amends.
Report as
CKC, these people are sociopaths.
Report as
aiken, unfortunately sociopaths will not be held accountable on "Judgement Day" regardless of whether they repent (they won't, it has to do with their mental state) or make amends (ditto). There will never ever be a supernatural JD anyway. The rest of us need to recognize and separate from CEO positions of power, those who cause such detriment due to their pathic behavior.

So what about people who just consistantly have bad luck no matter how hard they try to do good? And then the people who do bullshit and live life to the fullest? What do you think about that?
Report as
Sometimes we are blessed for doing good and we will definitely be rewarded in the hereafter. People that do bad usually reap what they sow on earth because of natural consequences. However, unfortunately some bad people seem to have all the good luck. God loves them both, good and bad. Life is life. We all have trials.

There are degrees to sin. Some sins are worse than others. At the same time, in regard to both eternal consequences and salvation, all sins are the same. Every sin will lead to eternal condemnation (Romans 6:23). All sin, no matter how "small," is against an infinite and eternal God, and is therefore worthy of an infinite and eternal penalty. Further, there is no sin too "big" that God cannot forgive it. Jesus died to pay the penalty for sin (1 John 2:2). Jesus died for all of our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21). Are all sins equal to God? Yes and no. In severity? No. In penalty? Yes. In forgivability? Yes.http://www.gotquestions.org/sins-equal.html

You can't punish a wrongdoing because right and wrong do not definitively exist. You can punish a doing, but you can't call it wrong.
