Guns are not safe. It's not just bad people. Just this week, a boy was shot by his father by accident as the man tried to get into his car. If you think guns are safe, please do not handle one, you will hurt someone.
Report as
clemwillhelpu
but theres ALWAYS going to be a bad person. you can't deny them a gun, or you'd be breaking one of their rights.
Report as
sounds like someone wasn't aware..and Not paying attention..anytime you neglect to respect an object..it can hurt you...even a baseball,,a glass plate..i'm pretty sure he neglected to put the "Safty" ON...which would have prevented it from firing...and why did he have it loaded ahead of time..by the way..i am a marine..

guns don't hurt people, idiots with guns hurt people.

you see, theres always going to be idiots, who have guns. taking this right away, will reduce the mass killings. without guns, we wouldn't have children being shot at a school.

And teachers could be that threat.

people in charge are who we are supposed to be able to trust...there are bad cops too..in the long run though..our protectors hopefully WILL...and be able to...god help us if they don't...
Report as
I have studied this about guns being safe for many years now. I have one loaded and cocked sitting on my dresser. It has yet to shoot or harm anybody. They just don't go off by themselves.
Report as
How do you propose having a country without guns? You can't un-invent them.

Taking gun rights away from law abiding citizens will make criminals have easy pickings.

Yes, I think they should.
Honestly, if I was a teacher, I would bring one to school whether the law said I could or not.

Sub Teachers also have background checks before they are hired. But I'm sure they would not want to carry a gun to school...
Report as
Why would they not want to carry a concealed gun to school? You think they would rather use their bodies for a shield?

I think they should be allowed to. So they can protect the kids.

Millions of legal gun owners are in this country. Many carry them legally concealed. You think everybody is a killer? You must be very paranoid. Maybe you should just stay home and hide.
Report as
Oh and that mean teacher could just as easily use their fist. How often does that happen? I'm sure we would have heard it on the news by now.

u know, we really dont care about your opinion. ive dont things, that you wouldn't do. I'm not paranoid either.

no, i feel guns should be permanently banned. sure, you have people that are trustworthy, and can handle a gun. then, you have these lunatics. they were given the guns legally, and in this last case, murdered children. this can't be stopped, because we have the rights to have guns. so, you have to let those have guns, or your breaking one of their rights. the world would be better off, without guns.

Report as
and what happens when you LEGALLY ban guns? All the people that LEGALLY acquire guns won't be able to use them and all the people that ILLEGALLY acquire guns will! That doesn't solve the problem!
Report as
Anybody who really wants to get a gun will buy it on the black market illegally. You can never solve a problem like that. If it were possible to COMPLETELY outlaw guns, I would agree. But for now and probably forever it's not. The same thing with drugs. It's banned (in most states) but people illegally acquire it.
Report as
clemwillhelpu
if you've got a problem with drugs, you should have a problem with guns. people with guns don't kill people, people kill people. drugs don't kill people, people kill themselves. drugs and guns, their in the same boat.

I don't see why teachers should be trusted with that. I don't see how that will help. It just makes America even more nuts.

That plan just sounds like a set up for more accidents and tragedies waiting to happen. Putting more weapons near kids seems counterintuitive. I know I don't want my kids school looking like a prison.

I agree. It's getting sad to think about isn't it. I only Sub now, but I don't want to have to take a gun to school when I'm around the children, they run up and huh me alot and I just don't see it.
Report as
Hug... My thumbs won't work right today. Lol
Report as
I agree with you 100%.
Report as
When I taught I know I would never be able to forgive myself if I accidentally hurt someone or didn't secure a weapon properly. It is a HUGE responsibility to have a weapon. Especially around kids.
Report as
Yes, I know. Teachers have enough to do.
Report as
I know it'd be scary but you have to think about the possibility of a mass murderer coming into your school. (I know the odds are unlikely) But what if it does happen? And you don't have a gun? You know what happens? Hundreds of people are slaughtered and no one has a way to defend themselves. I don't like that possibility either.
Report as
also, I probably should have added this, but believe in choice. If a teacher doesn't want to bring a gun in to their classroom, they shouldn't have to. I am sure many would be scared of harming a student. But there still should be the option of bringing a gun to school to protect their students from a murderer.

All I can think of is kids going through the teacher's desk, getting ahold of a gun. Unless, it's locked up.

Helpful (3) Fun Thanks for voting Comments (1)

true, and if that kid tries to hurt someone else, another teacher can protect their self and the other students. (And I'd hope the teacher wouldn't be dumb enough to NOT lock the gun in the first place.)

Only if they have had special training and keep it on them at all times. There is a school in Texas that allows this. The school is 30 miles from the nearest police station. Even a few minutes away is too far when seconds count.

I like this idea. Of course I also agree that every one has the right to choose. If a teacher doesn't want to bring a gun to school, they shouldn't HAVE to. But their's gotta be some teachers out there that are willing to protect their students. (with a gun if necessary)

Yes! Just think if the principal of Sandy Hook would've had a gun, 26 lives would've been saved!

Helpful (2) Fun Thanks for voting Comments (1)
Report as
The principal would know how to properly use the gun. Although some may think it's a good idea for teachers/staff to harness a gun, there are also so many things that could go wrong. Schools should leave the safety in the hands of school security.

People usually don’t go out hunting with a rifle or handgun with high capacity clips. But people may use them for self defense, if a group or a gang invades their property trying to harm or steal, or when there is a natural disaster and panic with looting and a high capacity clip may be needed in a gun. But people don’t need to walk around with guns if every one follows the law.

No way. That could only empower the teachers unions. What you need are armed mercenarys everywhere that people gather. With two wars winding down, the private contractors are going to be looking for work, the arms industry is going to be looking for ways to expand in an already saturated domestic market, and the suicide-by-cop syndrome is costing the taxpayers way too much money. Yep. Private security is the way of the future - God help you if you can't afford it.

Yes. Things like this makes me wish I lived in Texas... However as I've said several times above in comments, I don't think this as a law should be FORCED upon teachers. Encouraged... yes! But I believe that we all should have the ability or the freedom to make our own choices. And I know many teachers would be willing to bring guns in to protect their students. Will all? No. But that's ok as long as we have people to defend the children.

I think that having a gun in class should be encouraged for teachers. However, the teacher should go through a complete mental check and the gun should be stored away in a locked case only the teacher know the passcode to.
