Depends on how you lost it. If you had been singing or yelling or having to talk loud for an extended period of time, you just need to stop talking for a while and let your vocal cords rest. The cords are strained and stretched and letting them chill will fix it. If it came on over night for no reason, you may want to see a doctor to see if you have a virus or bacterial infection in your throat that is causing it. In that case, they may say to gargle salt water and stay quiet, or it could mean taking a prescription. If it came up out of no where... see a doctor soon. If it is strain, don't drink cold or hot drinks and go for room temp when you can. Do not whisper, as that actually hurts more because you have to push more air over the cords to whisper and it strains. Cover your throat out in the cold too. If you have to talk, try to talk normal and don't worry if it is quiet. Try not to talk as much as possible for a few days til it feels normal.
