I also agree your vet should be working closely with you and answering your questions. In the meantime a great website for care of Guinea pigs is called Guinea Lynx. It is very informative in everything including bladder stones and also how to hand feed and what to hand feed. Also has a forum you can get on and ask questions and get an answer
quick from very knowledgable people. Please go to this website ASAP.

were syringe feeding him his pellets and carrot mixture every four hours and water every two .. he hasn't pooped all day he had surgery Thursday went back Friday cause he was bloated and vet drained fluid and stuck two needles in him to make sure urine wasn't draining in to his stomach cavity cause he wasn't peeing a lot after surgery. now he won't swallow the water or food just dribbles out of his mouth now

Poor baby! I hope you can get help from the Guinea Lynx forum. You need to make the food that you give him thicker so it can't run out of his mouth. Put the syringe in the side of his mouth in between his teeth and inner cheek. It does take practice. Guinea Lynx has a whole section on hand feeding. But try making the food thicker. If the food gets too thick for a syringe you can feed with a small spoon. He also needs water or Pedialite the electrolyte solution you can buy at drugs stores but unsweetened. I have used that to mix into the pellets. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or the Guinea Lynx.

He passed a way Saturday at 5am of septic shock his bladder and kidneys failed him. It's was very painful to watch him pass in my arms. Vet said there was nothing we could do other then what we did do for him. I'd never get the surgery again for a piggy only bought him an extra two days of nothing but pain and suffering

Oh sweetie I just saw your comment as I have had no Internet for a few days. I am so sorry your little guy didn't make it. I was praying he would be ok. I have had g pigs for many years and have two right now. I have had to deal with bladder stones with one pig. I researched this and that's when I found Guinea Lynx. I gave my pig a med to hopefully break up the stone but he didn't make it either. Yes surgery is so hard on them as they are so fragile. I know what it is like to lose one as I have lost many over the years. It is tough and I wish you peace and know that it isn't your fault. You were trying to help him and some do make it with surgery. He is at the Rainbow Bridge and you will see him again one day. Love to you.

Oh honey such a miracle!!! It was meant to be! Can't believe some people just because he had red eyes they wouldn't take him! I had a g pig with red eyes and he was blonde. He was beautiful! Yeah he had red eyes but that made him more special to me! Thank God for special people like you! You lost a life but also saved a life! I am sure the new one won't take the place of the one you lost because they are all different and have their own special personalities. Thank you for letting me know. Congrats on your new baby. May he have a happy long life with you! You can get in touch with me anytime you need with your g pigs or anything. Happy New Year!!

The vet operating on your ginny pig should be working closely with you and monitoring gpig's recovery. Go to the vet for answers, the buck stops there, with him.

Just out of curiosity, how much does bladder surgery on a guinea pig cost?
Report as
I wish I could tell you, but while we had our gpig pets they never got sick. Do you feel you were overcharged?
Report as
No. I've never owned one.

he passes away Saturday morning at 5am from septic shock vet said there wasn't anything we could do other then what we tried. vet said it was just more then his little body could take and it failed him... we regret getting him the surgery all it did was buy him 2 extra days of pain and suffering. :-(
