Is there any religion in which you are free to do anything?

No. That's one reason why I'm an atheist.

niya Jackie. even atheists have ethics, and a moral code. right?
Report as
Oh yes, of course! I'm still a kind and compassionate person. I treat other people how I want to be treated ya know?
Report as
so there are rules even for atheists. guess not much different for religious and atheist here
Report as
Lol I don't think aseem was talking about ethics and morals that are commonplace in today's society, but rather free to do anything like eat pig, have sexuaI intercourse before marriage, etc.
Report as
sex aside, no difference. sex outside marriage is a big divider. but even my atheist friends have rules on that. if I were married and still wanted to have sex with just anyone, they say its not right. its odd they have rules without a rulemaker. but there they are. we all tend to celebrate commitment, religious or not
Report as
It's a personal preference.

even atheist people don't murder or cheat. unless I got that wrong, they do have ,limits on what to do.
Report as
religion kinda failed on that as well. how many people belonging to a religion have killed someone?

religion does not control that, morals do, and that is from within
Report as
agreed we fail at keeping the limits but all men fail, religion or not. atheists and religious both fail. the point of the question is that all men set limits on behavior. religion plays not much of a part except to give a reason.

Yeah there is. It's call doing your own thing. That's man made religion. along with any religion that goes against the Word Of God.

It is a philosophy of hedonism. It is ethically lacking, because in such a philosophy, murder, rape, and all manner of unethical acts are permissible. Ethical hedonism is the idea that all people have the right to do everything in their power to achieve the greatest amount of pleasure possible to them. It is also the idea that every person's pleasure should far surpass their amount of pain. Ethical hedonism is said to have been started by a student of Socrates, Aristippus of Cyrene. He held the idea that pleasure is the highest good. The good of the one outweighs the good of the many, or of the other.
Religions are both philosophies and devotions to an ultimate higher power. All religions have limits on the deeds of men, and ethical systems to help decide what actions are best. But even atheists have restrictions on their behavior; they do not advocate murder, rape, stealing, and in fact their ethics mirror the 10 commandments (minus those related to God). Therefore, it is a moot point that religions have limits on the deeds of man, for all men set such limits. There is no philosophy that does not have any limits on human behavior, including nihilism.
