It depends on the things you are thinking. They may offer therapy or they may briefly hospitalize you. If you feel you are a danger to yourself or others & have developed a plan on how to do it-you need to talk to the doctor immediately. It's best to keep yourself safe, I know these thoughts can be scary, I've had them myself. I also work in the mental health field & have seen people really get better after asking for help. Don't go through this alone!
If you're a minor the dr should talk to your parents or guardian. As an adult they will talk to you about treatment options. There are many treatment options available. By all means tell your dr about your thoughts. You won't be hospitalized or committed

They will most likely try and find out how severe it is by giving you a series of tests, if the doctor dose not think it is too severe he/she will can prescribe you an anti-depressent medication, i they think it is very bad they might have you recieve mental help, even if that means a mental home or counseling.
They get help for you. if you're on medication It could be a side effect your having. if you are an adult tell them exactly what you're going through and how you're feeling.. They would probably keep you for observation & therapy would be good & medication to help you. if you're a minor please talk to someone also.. your life is a gift. you're special to so many people you just might not know it right now.. you will feel better soon.. my prayers and thoughts are with you..
