If your a police officer and you buy a crown Victoria black and buy yourself a light bar (red white, and blue) continue reading....

and let's say your off duty, you can still pull over people for breaking the law, and do code 3 etc.? I'm curious because I'm going to be a LAPD police officer in about 2-4 years and i would like to know if i can.

To answer your question: No.
You can't use a civilian car, disguise it as an official police vehicle & use it "on duty" during your off-time.
Next thing you know, you'll want to wear a cape & mask, & put "bat" emblems on that car....

like an undercover solid black/with LED bars. I'm pretty i can because " uniform and accessories warehouse" sales black and white light bars so I'm guessing you can attach them to your vehicle because that's why they sell them

The uniform place sells most anything. People buy these light bars to put up in their 'man caves' cuase they think they look bad. It is specifically ILLEGAL to have these installed on personal cars. Do a little searching on California law.

I would hope not. You should need and want to get away from your job on your days off.

You're pretty much a cop 24 hours a day. That's why some cops carry guns off duty. But I don't know if you'd want to do all that.

what if your dedicated to it? proud of it?
Report as
You'll be able to prove that when you're on duty. By your attitude, the way you wear the uniform, the way you treat people, folks will know it, and you'll feel good
Report as
ahh. I'm good at that, when i did my tours i was basically a cop. looking for bad guys searching people etc.

In some states a State Police officer takes home his cruiser, also so with Deputy Sheriff's county police.

I would never pull over for a light other then blue.

To some degree you don't even need a squad car, your a cop on your days off still. My friend is a police officer, he doesn't make arrest or anything off duty but he always carries his weapon and badge concealed.

i live in CA so it probably is in your state

Nope again. You may need to actually attend some college also (2 years minimum) and must pass an aptitude exam. However the previous may not hold true, if you want to work for some small town backwater PD.

You are COMPLETELY prohibited from using your personal vehicle for traffic stops. If you can't figure out why now, in a couple years when you start paying for such mundane things as Car Insurance, Tires, and maintenance you will figure out why. It is great that you want to be a cop. But, first, go to their website and look up the requirements to become one.

This has some amazing info. Go check it out, before you spend money on light bars and such.

I found a cop web forum that mentioned that in California it is SPECIFICALLY against the law to have blue lights on POVs. (Thats coptalk for Personal vehicles)
