Which species is older dogs or cats?

Report as

Both evolved from the same source animal over 200 million years ago. Dogs were the first to be domesticated by humans.

That is a load of crap. They are completely chromosomally incompatible. Besides no matter how long a species is around it cannot form entirely new, unharmful, and beneficial (even less likely) chromosomes in one generation (it has to be one generation or else the partial chromosome will either do nothing or be extremely harmful to the organism. Either way the creature would not have an edge over the other, preventing the partial chromosome from developing)

The source animal part anyways

Dang, just now realizing I put 200 instead of 20 :/ Anywho, what your saying Wrath is the same as humans relation to Baboons, yes our chromosomes are incompatible that doesn't mean we don't share a common ancestor. And of course ONE generation would not be enough, we're talking millions of years and different environments, felines developed in forested areas while canines evolved in areas of open plains.

Dogs were also mentioned in the old testament during ancient Egypt. Pharao used what we think of greyhounds as hunting dogs.

I wish I could reort this comment as "stupid" (is mid evil times some sort of golden mystical dog age similar to "Ragnorak"?)

Cats. Domesticated dogs have been around for about 15,000 years, whereas cats have been around for about 8 to 10 million years.

Depends on where you delineate the beginning of a particular species. Evolution is a continuum and both have ancient ancestors - maybe equally ancient. Yes, we know some form of cat was woshipped by Egyptians but you also have the dog star and Anubis who are derived from dogs.

They may have evolved together. Large ice age wolves & saber tooth cats existed at the same time. Before that, not sure. But logically, considering how equally close the two species have developed, guessing they've been racing ahead, neck & neck, as top predators for as long as animal life has existed.

Dogs are MUCH older than cats. In fact dogs have been with us as long as we can remember, but cats were domesticated from the african wild cat around 4,000 years ago approx. This is also based on if you are talking about Felis Domesticus, and not cats in general
