It was our Lord's custom and the other apostles custom not to forsake the assembly of them self with others who believed and worshiped God.=========And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. (Luke 4:16 KJV)================================And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. (Hebrews 10:25 NLT). The assembling of believers is for our edification and encouragement and the confirming of our faith.
We should want to attend church so we can fellowship with others who have also experienced the amazing grace of Jesus Christ. The importance of hearing God's Word, applying it to our lives, and sharing it with others. We should attend church, not to collect spiritual bonus points, but because we love God and recognize what His Word says about the importance of corporate fellowship and worship (Hebrews 10:24-25). Every Christian should attend church regularly. God's desire is that we utilize the local church for our own spiritual edification and the use of our spiritual gifts to minister to others.http://www.gotquestions.org/missing-church.html

Participating in a religion you truly believe in, whatever religion that is, is truly comforting. It's as simple as that. And if you are an atheist, your confidence that you can face the universe on your own is comforting to you, isn't it?
