the idea of the first amendment is so that citizens of the United States can voice their opinion about things without fear of being punished by the government. and i seriously doubt the founding fathers intended it to be used as an excuse for public obscenities. but what can i say, America is full of sin

I believe they knew people would use it for public obscenities and hateful speech. They knew that with freedom comes things we might not agree with. They also knew to be truly free you must except the good and the bad. They also knew that we the people have the power to shun people with bad speech if we choose without the use of a big bad government banning things that only gives the govt more power over the people. They made it so we the people hold the power over the government. Our founders gave us the gift of freedom. So sad that people want to curtail that freedom because they don't like someone else having rights they disagree with.
