Should the gun laws be changed?

Why?

Report as

Blaming guns for violence is like blaming cars for drunk driving.

Very good examples! Considering the fact that O.J. was acquitted, shows a very real problem, a broken court system! Remember, it's the court that enforces ALL weapons law in America! Enforce the letter of the laws on the books, and weapons crimes will fall!

What do you think about the gun laws? I respectfully am not going to give my own opinion. To much room for debates.....Very interesting question.

Stay tuned.. A gun murder was committed against my family. 18 years of a life sentence was not enough. The perpetrator is now free, but my family member is still dead. Yet I know that the gun was just a tool. The murderer could also have used a hammer
Report as
@Declaired: Now you should get a gun yourself so you will never fall the victom of a gunner. That is my answer Panthe. There will always be weapons and axes. I feel for some reason there is more media stress on shootings recently even though there has always been shootings. Thats my answer.

Few are understanding the "politics "attached to this. We have a second term president, that has promised to sign the U.N. gun ban treaty! Just think how that changes the playing field? This is just another excuse they use to get their foot in the door, towards stripping all of use of our constitutional rights!

Stiffen jail sentencing for those who violate gun laws. Things like 50 years for attempted murder, 30 years for armed robbery. Life for murder. in first degree.
No reduced time for any of the above.
Guns are a necessity in remote areas of our country where wild animals roam, and criminals may prey on a lonely household in a remote area.
And I believe everyone has the right to protect their household.
No one has the right to bring a firearm into a municipal building including a school. 50 years in prison is appropriate for violators, because it will prove a hostile action was planned.

Laws concerning weapons in gun free zones are pretty stiff already, but have you noticed a new trend? These most recent acts were committed at just that type of place because they WERE weapons free! No chance of protection there! And violence in ALL forms of media should be put under scrutiny, since society has chosen to abdicate their parental roles to the schools, and the Internet! The computer is now the "babysitter "among us all.

There is no way that guns will ever be illegal, BUT, there CAN be changes made to TRY and prevent guns from falling into the wrong hands.....and anyone that just concedes the fact that criminals will get guns regardless so we shouldn't do ANYTHING to try and prevent it, then those people deserve NO sympathy when it's their brother or their sister or mother or father ends up with a bullet in their face.....SOMETHING needs to at LEAST be attempted to TRY and prevent these tragedies.....

We already have enough laws on the books now that aren't enforced, why add more? When progressive democrats change their stance on abortion, I'll consider changing my position on reasonable weapon restrictions. And for a factoid, here's one you won't hear in the media. We in America are now aborting children at a rate of a little over 2700 a day! That's one million unborn each year! Until the progressives among us come to terms with that number as a daily slaughter, to back up their "right "to abortion, we on the right have to accept the 200 a day death rate from weapons. And all of those deaths are not from crime! Progressives lump together all weapon related death, which is actually good. And why is that? You can't call a chosen abortion an accident, it is a conscious choice, as weapon related accidents are not!

Helpful (2) Fun Thanks for voting Comments (8)

They can't refute those numbers, they're straight from the AMA.

Facts are facts, and killing is killing! They, the progressives among us, can't have it both ways! Using misinformation, with the help of the media is a travesty in its self. Only the truly informed among us can even draw anything but half baked conclusions based on what we know. There's always a rush to judgement, and a knee jerk reaction to follow.
Report as
The knee jerk reaction is yours, open up your eyes, look around you, do you really think another law will change things? Do you really think locking up more law breakers is going to make things better? No, but by taking all your informed logic and putting it to better use by demanding our children be better protected could. There's your missing puzzle piece, protect our children at all costs, it doesn't matter the cost, I'd gladly pay higher taxes to do whatever is needed.
Report as
rustyboilerz
Armed security, armored busses, prisons, not schools, yeah I want to live in a police state. Evil exists, and no matter how hard we try, we'll never be safe at any cost! Surrender your freedoms, your utopia awaits. Me, I'll confront evil on a case by case basis, nothing more. I used abortion, another assumed "right " and undeniable facts to support my conjecture, try that yourself next time.
Report as
You missed the whole point as I knew you would. If we must address the abortion issue here it goes, people have abortions because they do not want this child, it doesn't make it right, I'm not their judge, neither are you.
Our children going to school that are very much loved and wanted being gunned down can in no way be compared to abortion. I'm sure if you asked anyone of those parents who loss a child they would be in total agreement, if schools need to be a so called prison to protect their child, then so be it.

There is a huge difference between regulating and banning.
The whole specious argument that laws don't work could be extended to all laws then.
Regulate the blessed things, no civilian or hunter needs a clip that holds 30 or more and assault rifles aren't necessary either.
The answer lies between the "ban all guns" nuts and the NRA, which is also nuts.
We regulate cars, we regulate alcohol, we regulate cigarettes. Notice none of these items are banned? Just controlled.

Read the laws we now have on the books! It's not that we don't have enough restrictions, we just choose to selectively enforce the laws! And when the U.N. comes knocking with their stormtroopers to collect my weapons, I'll be very happy to have my 30 round clips! Any veteran worth his salt knows what I'm talking about!

@Boo: You could say that normal paople dont need ARs however just the fact that the Constition is triing to be tampered with could possible open the flood gates to further tampering. Owning guns is a right that anyone should have if thats what makes them feel secure about them and their family. And many could have saved themselves if they had packed an AR the day that some gunner decided to go crazy.

Report as
But you leave out the well regulated militia.
If you take "shall not be infringed" literally then I should be able to own a rocket launcher or the atom bomb...
you have to admit the founding fathers never dreamed of the kind of firepower we have now
Report as
Absolutely Boo, well said!!
Report as
Your right. But the definition of "arms" should be just limited to "firearms" wich does not include atom bombs flamethrowers or misstle launchers. Its in the dictionairy. Either way, NO ONE should have the ability to destroy hundreds or thousands with the touch of a botton.
Report as
But now you're messing with the 2nd amendment according to some, you say if should mean firearms only.
Report as
Well, thats what "arms" means. As in "the right to bear arms" Bombs and rockets are not "arms" per definition. And your right that they did not know we would have weapons of mass destruction or people as crazy as we do.
Report as
That's what I'm saying. If they had any clue what kind of "arms" we'd end up with, the 2nd amendment might have been a little clearer.

There is no law, no ban, no restrictions that will keep weapons out of the wrong hands. It's like anything else illegal, they will always get their hands on them. Once you tell someone you can't have it, they show you "yes they can". Only one way, stop producing new high assault guns, but then were would that leave our army? There will always be black markets, smugglers who will get what anyone needs.
It's us who need to demand protection for our children, you don't see anyone breaking into a prison to kill prisoners do you?

true.....I'm only speaking my thoughts with you.....Americans people only really care about guns and money..not about people...because if we really cared we would be like other countries and banned these weapons and not have a black market... but we care more about guns and money..... we have 100 guns per 1 person.....that's ..... untold suffering......having a gun is more important than life itself....
Report as
Your right Dustee, but since guns seem to be here to stay, we the people need to make protecting our children the number one priority. Whatever it takes, whatever it costs!!!
Report as
From daily finance...
Bullets are at the center of two-thirds of U.S. murders, making assault by firearm the ninth most common cause of death in America, accounting for 1 out of every 300 deaths. By comparison, drowning comes in twelfth (1 out of every 1,072 deaths) and airplane accidents come in a distant fifteenth, responsible for just 1 in 5,862 deaths. Unintentional firearms discharge comes just behind airplane crashes at sixteenth (1 in 5,981 deaths).
And if firearms are the tools of choice in most homicides, they are even more of a factor in suicides. The majority of gun-related deaths -- 59 percent -- are self-inflicted. When it comes to suicide, guns are especially effective: While only 2 percent to 5 percent of suicide attempts involve a gun, attempts using firearms account for half of all "completed" suicides.
Yet for all the talk of Obama's plans for a gun crackdown, it is easier now to buy firearms than firecrackers: While 31 states place limits on the types of fireworks that one may buy without a permit, only seven require gun owners to register their arsenals.
Report as

Yes lets disarm everyone in the U.S., but when those that follow the moon and star show up on our shores, you'll rest easy knowing you won't be able to stop it.
Report as
@Rusty, no one wants to take away your guns, but why in earth would you need a Bushmaster to fend off a robber? A simple shot to the knees will take anyone down, and you don't need a AK or a Bushmaster to do it.
Anytime something like this happens everyone jumps on the bandwagon, when they need to worry more about the cause, mental illness, people want to sweep this under the rug. These parents should be forced to get help for their children who suffer from mental illness, told where to go for help and get the resources they need and not try to keep it hidden.
