How many ceiling fans fall down?

Percentage

Report as

I'm afraid no such survey has ever been done, so the number is not known. This is especially so because most people prefer to reinstall the fan themselves instead of getting a technician to do it, which means you won't hear of it.

I don't think you can get an accurate estimate of that number, since most people are not going to report ceiling fan failures unless they actually cause injury.

My ceiling fan is like 20+ years old and it's still going, I remember as a kid I always imagined (or more like feared) it falling down and like spinning around the room chopping off legs and stuff.

Mine fell.....right next to my daughter. Luckily it missed her....She got a little showered with the broken glass from the globe I think. But she wasn't cut or hurt, just scared....I installed the fan myself...I am, and have been a carpenter/technician for my whole life. I have an A+ rating on Angie's list (Viers Enterprises).... I checked the screws and they were tight, They are still tight as I have not reinstalled another fan. The mount that holds the fan to the ceiling is made from cheap POT metal not steel.....I am livid. But I have not complained because I like Home Depot I shop there regularly....But they need to do something about this. I will never install another fan for myself or for a customer that has that kind of mounting....Hampton Bay or otherwise....If the mount is not solid steel......perhaps you should be afraid......

Glad your daughter is OK. What a scare. Same story here. I too had a professionally installed Hampton Bay ceiling fan fall and crash that was purchased from Home Depot. My electrician said the same cause...cheap metal bracket. The fan had no wobble and was up less than 17 months. I think it's time Home Depot/Hampton Bay do something about this. What if the next person or child isn't as lucky as yours? We live in NY and can be reached through www.NeptunePandH.com. Would like to hear from you. Thanks for your help.
