What does fruit cake taste like?

My mom was given fruit cake by my neighbor, and she threw it in the trash. I ask my mom what it taste like, and she said, " It taste like death." What exactly does it taste like?

Some people say it's bad, but it's fruit......with cake..... ._.
I don't understand what could go wrong from those combinations...lol.
