What is wrong with My dachshund? I need help!

He is just dragging his back legs and cannot use them at all! He doesn't seem to be in to much pain. They just collapse under him and he drags himself with his two front legs. He just sits their shivering. We know he did not get ran over, we know that he was running some last night in the snow though! We don't know what is wrong and we want him to feel better! He doesn't show pain when we feel his back legs and such.

Justhere is correct. Dachshunds are predisposed to spinal conditions, particularly a condition called intervertebral disc disease. He needs a neurological exam and x-rays. Surgery may be highly beneficial depending on the individual case. If not, treatment with corticosteroids is the standard treatment. These drugs are only available through your veterinarian. I would recommend him be seen asap as the longer the neurologic deficits go on, the poorer the results of treatment. Do not give anything over the counter because NSAIDS cannot be given with corticosteroids.

This breed is known for suffering spinal issues. Sounds like that is what it is. He needs to go to the Vet or he could suffer permanent paralysis of his legs.

What would they do for him? What can we do for him until we get him to the vet?

What would they do for him? And what can we do for him until we take him to the vet?

Keep him quiet and calm. They might but him on a steroidal medicine to decrease the swelling around the injury. They would definitely X-ray him.

Okay. What causes these injuries?

Their spine, because if the elongation, is prone to injury. Probably did something while moving around.

If the spinal cord or one of the nerve roots is damaged his paralysis could be permanent. If his legs are truly collapsing, he needs to see a Vet.

Dachshunds have very sensitive spines so they can get hurt easily. It probably has something to do with the spine. Take him to the vet ASAP.! I sort of had the same problem with my dachshund. And if the vet gives a shot/medicine. Well after the dogs muscles may have a reaction. If it happens IMMEDIATLY call the vet. And you should seriously do this!
