How do you feel about the exclusive I.Q. group called Mensa and why?

Are Mensa members more successful in life, get better jobs? Please answer if you're a Mensa member OR personally know someone who is. To join Mensa you must score among the 98th percentile of intelligence Read about Mensa here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mensa_International

Not really, just a group of people who scored decent on a test used to test mental retardation in children hanging out together so they can feel good about themselves. I've heard quite a few Mensa stories. Guy shows up at a Google interview, shows his Mensa membership card like its a right to passage, and then proceeds to get whooped.

One Mensa member I'm acquainted with seems to be quite proud of his membership. He's 30 something, works at pizza hut, and lives with his mom.

Not really. I don't believe that has anything to do with your success in life. Success has to do with your perseverance and strength of character. A lot of MENSA members do do better in life than their "less" intelligent counterparts, but is that because of ten IQ points, or is it because of something else like how hard they work or how well they react to others? Are they extreme introverts who keep all their intelligence to themselves, or are they people pleasers?

All I know is, my parents snicker when they talk about my dad being invited. I don't think it helps you much in life, my dad has a pretty nice job and he never joined. I remember one conversation where they referred to it as a group of people who "preen each other's feathers". *heehee* (it might mean something in Spanish?)
If you get invited though, just go for it. Really, what downside can there be to joining?

preen each other's feathers means "groom each other"

You never get invited to join! You HAVE to pass their I.Q. test. Anyone may try to take the test, but you have to go to a place to do it. You can find one locally. Somebody told you a fib aabout your dad OR somebody worded it wrong!

lol I only ever half pay attention to my family.
I know what preening feathers is, I have birds. I meant mensa. In spanish.

Yeah, i've heard people with autism and such, can be very advanced in some areas, but lack in others, eg. may be really good at math, but lacking in social skills. Maybe some of those Mensa people are smart/quick in educational aspects, but aren't good socially, and when it comes to functioning in society/having the drive to set high goals, and pursue them. Depends on their goal in life, they're not aiming to get a highly respected job or have a family, but rather focus on different sorts of things instead (like a hobby of some sort) and just trying to enjoy themselves, then yeah, they may very well be successful at doing that. Either way, I doubt it has much to do with their I.Q.

generally the better "grasp" one has on things..the better ones decision making abilities are...generally...people don't always use their "better judgement" though...(friends influence,,,,family..etc..) ( just another "forum"..for some of those minds to gather..)
