No. I use public computers at a public library. I get 2 hours of Internet time. I want more time for word processing, Facebook/SimCity and email.

Perhaps part of the reason that you are homeless is because you once believed that everything should be free and handed to you? I'm not saying that's the case, but why the heck would a laptop with wifi be free?

I don't think that's possible, although you can go to your local library gain access to a computer... which I'm sure you are doing right now.

You are by now familiar with the saying There Aint No Such Thing As A Free Lunch (TANSTAAFL). Almost all offers on the Internet for free computers are hoaxes or identity theft scams. Obama may be giving away obamaphones, but they aren't smart phones, they are an expansion of a program begun under Clinton. Sorry, the best source for you is likely your public library, private charity, or a rescue mission. And considering your homeless condition, it's questionable if you need more possessions to lug around right now.

It’s not just access pe se that I am looking for. See my comment to "123green321". The missions do not provide Internet access unless you’re in a program. Those programs really do not work. They are only interested in subsidies. I am looking for a good used laptop (with wifi) that some people just do not need anymore, from some kind hearted person.

Try a computer repair store & see if they have one they can give you. They're probably stacked to the roof with laptops, for parts, & may be kind-hearted enough to help you out.

(And agree, these job programs seem to support gov't employees more than the unemployed - but if you must participate to have computer use, then do it. I can imagine worse things than this. Like sleeping on the street.)

no recovery program works if you aren't ready for them. the majority of program failures are due to clients not being mentally able to perform the requirements. here we see about half fail their first program trial.

I get free lunches every day. :-)

Thanks for all the feedback. This morning a friend of mine, who loaned me a digital camera in May 2011, told me that his daughter has a spare laptop that she can part with. My friend knows that I am not prone to losing things as I still have his camera as he was looking at some of the photos I took. Thanks anyway.

there are two types of people: those that add to the common good, and those who feed off it. I have no doubt which group is yours.

If you need a computer to do a job search, your local unemployment office (Dept. of Labor) offers free, & I believe, unlimited desktop computer use. (As well as resume writing help, typing tips, etc.) If you need a laptop to have or keep a job - agree, this can be very expensive, esp. right now. Suggest the same source - your local Dept of Labor office. They may be able to hook you up with a slightly older, used laptop at no cost, or help you purchase a new one for very low monthly payments. Start there. And good luck.
